Can I first say I have no proof this actually works. It may simply be that my first 4 missions were bugged and the rest were not.

The 1st trial for me I had to reset 3 times and the 2nd trial once. I was getting extremely frustrated until I noticed something.

Wheneve I approached the contact on my swoop, he or she would vanish as soon as I got within a certain distance.

Apart from the first 2 trials when I arrived at the Starport, I ran on foot towards the WP. From a distance I could always see my contact and kept my pointer over him/her opening the menu as soon as I could. At this distance you cant converse, the box is greyed out, but I held the mouse button down until close enough until the converse option was available.

As soon as I got the mission, I pulled out my swoop and completed it doing the same thing when going back to the contact. This time dismounting 50m or so away.

This worked for me.

If your having problems with contacts vanishing, try this method. If it works, please post here saying so. As I say it may just have been pure coincidence that it worked like this for me but give it a bash.
