I'm not a crafter in game, so I was wondering if it's worth it to unlock any crafting branches for crafting my sabre?

Yes, a lot of jedis elect to get the first line of crafting prowess because it will add +20 to Force Experimentation which is described as giving you a better chance at getting amazing successes.

Don't waste your time.
Getting the line just negates the effect of a research city. So don't waste the FS line and only craft your sabers in a research city, with inspiration buff(post stupid 2% increase patch), and with crafting food that helps experimentation and assembly rolls.
Don't waste an FS line, there are better ways.

You could always unlock the branch that gives you an Aurellia LS Crafting Tool for a reward. Doesnt mean you have to spend any FS XP for that branch if you wish to get other branches instead.
