Do you have to complete one branch before starting another? Example, I have one box in the Ranged Defense line, and I have enough XP to get the second box. However, I'd like to get the first box in Melee speed instead. When I talk to the trainer, she says the only thing I can train is the Ranged Defense II. I've unlocked the RD, MS, and other two trees at this time, but I've only gotten the one box thus far.
Thanks in advance.

You can train the boxes in any order you want. I have 3 branches at box 2 and one at box 3 and a bunch of XP saved up (so I can train all the rest when I'm done, as I'm out of skill points).

You can convert xp and train skills in any order you choose and take as much time to do this as you choose. Noldan will offer to train you in a box if you have the branch unlocked and you have the required xp for that box.

Hmm, I wonder why she won't let me train then. At the very least I'd expect to be able to train in melee speed. I have the xp, and I know I just unlocked it, I have the lathe in my bag.
Anyone know what happens when you unlock a branch but don't have the 50k xp saved to unlock the novice box? That happened with the other trees. I unlocked the branches, but didn't open the novice box until last week.
Thanks for your quick responses

Are you sure that you have the xp for the box? Find the Combat Prowess skill tree and make sure there is that lovely green bar in the box you want.

And thereby making sure you have the correct type of FS XP. Reflexes and Combat both convert the same types of XPs but are for different trees. I've seen a number of people posting that they converted to the wrong XP type by mistake.

Yeah, I was sure to convert the xp to combat for the speed tree. I've always converted to reflex in the past for the ranged defense, but I was sure to convert to combat in this case.

Did you unlock that other branch? You can't just train in anything you wish. For example if you unlocked let's say 2 in combat prowess then you can train in any of the 2 you unlocked at anytime. You can't train in the others even though they show yellow as you progress. You have to complete that quest during that phase in order to convert. So if you wanted you can unlock all 6 branches and not convert till your ready then you can do them in any order. Just make sure you unlocked them first.

i need to know this too, i have the last crate of supplies needed for whips vehicle control tree, but not enough xp to open the novice box.
if i get too close to whip (dont even need to talk to him), i complete the quest and unlock the branch, but will that bug me?
do i have to train a novice box before i unlock a branch?
i can get the xp before the phase ends in 5-10 days, but i wanted to make sure one way or the other.

Just go to Whip and complete your mission. The novice boxes can be trained at any time completely independent of unlocks. You should have nothing to fear.
