Thread: Potential solution to get the commander through hills...

First off, please forgive me if this has already been posted. I did look.

Anyway...I was doing my first attempt at this quest with a friend. We didn't have any realistic expectation of completing it so wetried one of the bases that was far enough away not to be camped (Delta on Tarquinas). I began to discover what everyone is complaining about with the commander, and the ole light bulb turned on for a moment!

If placing a camp can "fix" the LOS exploit (I did read that on the boards somewhere... I'll try to post a link later), perhaps it can also help with this incline-impaired git of a commander. Sure enough, placing a camp will flatten the terrain enough so that you can get the commander through some of the tougher areas!

Unfortunately, I didn't think of this till about 30 minutes after I captured the commander and we only had one camp on us with no crafting tool to make more, so we were unable to test the logistics of doing this over long distances or with different camp kits. Had to log after we failed (we did expect to fail the first time), so I'm posting here in hopes that someone else can try this.

My questions: Can you place more than one camp at a time? Do the more complex camp kits have bigger footprints? Can two people work together with camp kits to make a make-shift road? Is this just one long stretch to try to make this quest easier that just isn't going to work? Would this be considered an exploit? (An exploit is using a(n u)known bug to your advantage... This is more of using a "working as intended"game mechanic in a "not as intended" manner)

Anyway, thanks for listening, and please let us know if you find anything further about this!

Up isn't the problem... it's going DOWN at a sharp angle when you have to break LOS that I'm having problems with

When I was trying to get him to go down a steep hill (ok, it was a cliff, but whatever... ) if I broke LOS from him, he would stop following, then start to run away... If I'm not visible to him, but 40+ meters away, will he still follow me? I did keep him targeted, and had my CTRL+M map up to keep an eye on him. Just had a time catching him with no terrain negotiation

BTW, thanks for your responses... I'll try some different things tonight. Still have 2 weeks to get'er'dun, so I have room to experiment with different approaches.
