After I finish a branch, do I have to do anything to "confirm" I got the 4th box in a branch, or is it just automatically understood?

Sorry for the lame question, but I completed my first grinding tree (Others were free unlocks)

when you finish a tree, you get trained for your last skill in that tree then you wait/ or do the next phase
