Thread: I have a (FS) dream

I am currently doing the Force Sensitive grind. Believe it or not, my biggest complaint about it is the lack of the sense of accomplishment. Sure the boxes give skill mods. Take my Teras Kasi artist master for instance. I can use combat prowess to get a faster attack speed and increased accuracy. Now if I remember correctly, TK masters speed cap naturally. I also very rarely miss with my attacks, even when blinded. Don't flame me because I am sure that these skill mods are indespensible when you come to be a Jedi, but my opinion is that we as Force Sensitive characters we should be able to do things that non Force sensitive characters simply are not capable of.

My idea for a solution to this is add new abilities to the FS trees, not just skill mods. In continuity, there were what are known to the Star Wars RPG by Wizards of the Coast as Force Adepts. This included all characters that learn to use the Force, except the Jedi who had a class of their own. I would love to see this put into the Combat Upgrade or an expasion. In the Star Wars RPG it is possible to have a Force wielding combatant that dare I say does not use a lightsaber. They use staffs, swords, and even ranged weapons. What they have in common in this era are two fold.

First, they both have Force Abilities ranging from heals to lightning bolts. They can grant group bonuses in much the same way a squad leader does. They can fight like a normal combat combatant can, and like the current system suggests, in a much more potent manner. They can move objects and push people around using the Force. Don't get me wrong though. 9 times out of 10 if the Force adept and a Jedi duel the Jedi will win. The Jedi are more disciplined and all things considered, better. Not to mention that having a lightsaber is just a cool thing to have.

Secondly, like the Jedi, the Force Adepts were hunted down and destroyed or recruited into the Empire as Inquisitors (who also use lightsabers). Using your Force powers openly would increase your visibility, and just like the Jedi, you would be on hunter's terms. Keep in mind that to do this you would probably need toease the xp costs for the conversions because your "grindability" would be lowered.

Using this idea, as far as I can see in all of my fallibility, would be healthy for the game for a number of reasons. Firstly, it would decrease the sensation of doing a "grind." As it is we all want a Jedi. We are doing what we know it takes to become a Jedi. What does it take. Hundreds of hours of senseless grinding. The game in this state is not fun. What Galactic Civil War. There is no war because all of the warriors are grinding FS to become a Jedi. I'm not saying it should be free. I am saying that if some are satisfied with Force abilities they will be more receptive of leaving the grind to do something fun. I do believe that the xp conversion should be eased so that the grind can be done while at the same time actually playing the game that I know you worked hard to design. It is a shame that we can't enjoy the content that is here already because we are too busy grinding. Secondly, face it devs. We all want Force abilities and if you make us all be Jedi to get what we want then it is inevitable that Jedi will NOT be rare. Why not? Because every body will have one. Some people will have more than one. Force Sensitive characters are supposed to be rare too. To that end everybody is one. We need to make the game to where there are advantages to each character category. Jedi=lightsaber and Force powers. Force adepts=Force Abilities and skill mods. Non FS means no bounty on your head. Thirdly, and finally, some people have character concepts that demands Force abilities but for some reason want a weapon other than a lightsaber. Right now they go together. You can't take one without the other. You can't be a decent Force user and a Master Swordsman for example.

When I really get down to it, my biggest dislike for the current system is that I don't get excited when I fill a FS box. In fact many people, my self included, aren't even training the boxes any more. I trained the Melee defense and melee speen lines and now I am banking. We are banking xp until we finish the grind, and then train everything at one time for the sole purpose of unlocking Jedi. That is tragic and should not be that way. Look at the nightsisters. They have Force Abilities. Be fair devs. All I really want is a sense of accomplishment when I fill a FS box, or at the very least give an incentive to fill the branch. We shouldn't have to wait 6+ months (that will be approximately accurate for me) with no sense of accomplishment. I might get aggravated with the grind and quit before I finish (I hope not though because I am looking forward to Jedi initiate). Take note that this is a vision, not a cold, angry flame against the devs. I think this change would be healthy for the community as a whole. As any vision should be, I welcome input, but please don't flame me or anyone else on this thread. That is terribly rude and counter productive.

Yes, I also think this would be great if implemented into the game.

Dude that'sALL that you can do when you become a jedi, because the SWG jedi is not like the movies nor the RPG, is MUCH more limited.

If you have all those abilities when you're force sensitive what you will have when becoming jedi???

I Like your idea to have habilities in the FS boxes, but I think that they should be much more limited.

Cheers!

I think the current system is good the way it is. You should not have lightning flying from your fingertipsas aForce Sensitive. The system of bonuses in place nowis designed to simulate the "higher faster stronger" Force enhancements -- by being more attuned to the Force you begin to take on the Jedi's ability to see a little bit into a possible future, allowing you to better dodge an impendingattack, or know where an enemy will beasplitsecond from now making your attack accuracy better. You are Force Sensitive -- sensitive to the Force, not yet able to control it into manifesting itself as powers, yet able to benefit from it's flow. As you become more sensitive to the Force (higher in the branch) you are able to better "read" it's flow and reap increased benefit from the knowledge of the Force (higher skillmods).

Keep your eyes on the prize... if you are Force Sensitive now because you wish to be a Jedi, then when you are able to control the Force, it will be that much sweeter for the savouring. To allow Force powers at this stage would be to dilute the experience.

The SWG Forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of
catassery and buttmonkeyism. We must be cautious.

Being a Jedi is about more than raw Force Powers. Jedi get lightsabers. Get can deflect away ranged attacks. A Jedi's abilities are generally more potent than those of the Force Adept. A lightsaber cuts through all armor types currently, as it should. As a Force Adept you would be using the other damage types, some of which are entirely useless against certain enemies. Jedi would still be desirable under this system. What I am suggesting is making the Force Sensitive trees MORE desirable. As the system stands everyone will bea Jedi which is exactly what the devs have made clear that they are trying to avoid. If this system were implemented then some people would would be satisfied at FS. Those who still want Jedi are still gaining something in FS and therefore takes away the "grinding" sensation that we all have. Sure I am still grinding. Am I enjoying the grind? I answer that with a resounding NO! Grinding is not fun. That is why we call it grinding. If it was fun we would call it "playing Star Wars Galaxies." Few people are "playing" the game, especially if they are combatants.

For example for new abilities, in Combat Prowess add some new attacks that only FS people can do, perhaps 2 or 3 weapon types per box. These techniques would have a HUGE delay so that only FS masters of that class really have a use for them. That makes the tree desirable. That would make the tree something that I want to earn boxes in, not grind the experience so I can bank 5 million FS xp and train all FS boxes simultaneously for Jedi. The Force abilities would probably be found in the Senses tree (that I am sure is one of the hardest trees to do, and also one of the least useful). Maybe some new items craftable only by FS characters for the crafting lines in FS. So much potential is left unused. I think it is a shame.
