Thread: Shortest Path with Free Unlocks?

Ok, I've read all of the stickied stuff about the village, but I'm still not 100% certain that I understand the best path to take with my free unlocks. I currently have 5 free unlocks from the old days of hologrinding. With the village currently being in phase IV, which branches should I pick up, in which order to to complete 6 branches in the fastest possible way? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Decide on 6 skills. Melee Defense should be one of them, do NOT unlock Melee Defense with a free unlock.

Unlock all others with free unlocks, one at a time, and train the boxes as soon as you're given xp.

Take the Captain Sarguillo mission and when he asks make *sure* you select you want to learn about using the Force for melee defense.

Grind xp and convert it for your last branch. Using imperial detonators and commando 4/0/0/0 it'll probably take you about 3 or 4 days of dedicated grinding if you do it casually.

My personal picks for the FS skills I'd love to have:

1) Melee Accuracy (do yourself a favor, unlock this for free....DO IT lol)

2)Melee Speed

3)Survival (camps, +5 terrain negotiation, awww yeah)

4) Melee Defense (currently i think it's bugged and gives you melee and ranged defenses)

5) Ranged Defense (may as well get this, why get used to having it with #4 if it goes away once they fix it)

6) Vehicular Control (it's fun)

That's just what I'd like.

Look through the skills and just pick whatever you think will be fun, just leave your last unlock as a Phase 4 skill, and you'll be on your way to Padawan in no time.

Hmmm, looks vaguely familiar...

Depends on your skills.

If you have enough doc to be able to rez, amd a buddy that can help, you could fill a whole tree in 10-12 hours. If you are combat, you can do any other combat tree and fill it up fairly quickly with the grenade deal

Also look at the trees you want, and what rewards you may want. see if there is a tree you want that is coming up, with a reward you want and pick that one

the things that yu will most want as jedi are these, luck, melee defense, ranged defense, melee accuracy, melee speed. this is very good and the last one would be anything else, try and get another in combat or something so its easy to grind out. hope this helps

This would be my pick:

Melee Defense
Ranged Defense
Melee Acc
Melee Speed
Repair (Almost perfect repairs)
One other crafting tree (For your saber crafting)

Get Melee Defense free and unlock, fill and choose 5 other branches and enjoy your new toy.

Basically you can be Jedi by this weekend.

Get your 5 branches you want free, which is 5 out of 6 you need. (Do not get Melee Defense free)
Do the Melee Defense Quest.
Grind the branch (Easy enough if you work at it without grenades, easier if with it)
Wait for the old man.

You dont want to rush it.

Look at the skills you want. Dont take skills just because you can finish faster and skip ones you will need. You will regret it

Then simply map out when you can unlock each branch.

Ones at the end or phases that have dual skills you want are canidates.

Also candidates for free unlocks are senses lines. They are the biggest pain to xp. No hard but a big pain

Ok now I am confused....

I have been away from the game for about 8 months (stuck in a useless 3rd world country with little or no internet access) and have just returned to the game.

Last night I logged on for the first time and the first thing I did was use /checkForce. I had a message along the lines of 'The force is within you. You are glowing yada yada'. Sweet. And before my 8 month hiatus I had completed 31 professions (only Pikeman was left to do). So I assume I will have a few free unlocks.

My problem is this - from all of the stickies I have read over the past few days here, I thought that my main toon would find the old man, do the Phase Quests, then I get a new toon who will be my Jedi. Is this not correct? It obviously makes a huge difference as to what skills I choose. If my main (Icha) will be the Jedi then I need to be careful and plan ahead. If my second toon can be the Jedi then I will just go for what is quickest.

Another thing that is not totally clear from all of the FAQs - say I have 4 free unlocks - when I get to the village can I just go ahead and unlock all 4 right away, or am I limited to 1 free unlock per phase? And another thing, when I use these free unlocks are they available instantly? What I mean is if I unlock something I was planning to get in Phase 3, can I use it now or do I need to wait until Phase 3 comes around?

Final question (honest), due to some bizarre grinding mathematics and template issues (back in the holo crazy days), I have a main toon who is (alomst) master of 6 basis professions, and a little bit of many elite professions. I was planning on grinding my way back up to TKM (my favorite) before I head to the village - does it matter? I do not want to delay the start of the quests after being away so long, but at the same time I do not want to head out there now and get my butt handed to me by the first meatlump I come across in a quest....

Comments and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
