Hi,
I'm currently working on Master Ranger/Master Carbineer and was wondering about 2 things:
1. Does your character template really affect the difficulty of doing the Jedi grind? Are there advantages of certain professions over others (+ what is a holo profession)?
2. Is there a chance to screw up the phase progression? Could you be left with unfinished skills and such? I'm sure there's probably a link to a post about these questions, so if someone could point me in the right direction, it would be just as helpful as answering my questions.
Thanks alot.
Lunga.

Strong Melee defence is important from what I understand. I am keeping master marksman, for the ranged defence but also have TKM ground out. So I have pretty good defence in both ranged and Melee. It will help when the BH's come looking for you. I would recommend reading the stickies at the top of the forum, there really is great info on there. Click on any post by SSSnugles and there are links in the signature line that have great info in them. Good luck!

First, check out this thread and the ones it links too, it should answer all of your questions about the FS grind. But I'll try to answer your questions.

1. To a certain extent. Some professions and better than others. Some of the most popular ones are TKM, MRifleman, MSwordsman, becuase they have some of the higest damage per second. I'd say those are mostly equal, but if I had to pick the fastest, id say swordsman. However, by far the fastest way to grind xp to convert to FS xp is by the use of grenades. So getting Commando 4-x-x-x can help tremedously. That is because grenades give combat xp at the same rate you normally get weapons xp and combat xp has a much better exchange ration than weapons 3:1 as opposed to 30:1.
2. I'm not sure I understand this question. Every 3 weeks you can unlock a different branch and only certain ones are offered each phase. Once you've unlocked it you can get the xp and train it every time. You need to plan out the order in which you want the skills to minimize the time needed. If you are not careful you can end up haveing to wait an additional 12 weeks.
A holo profession is part of the old system to become a jedi. After you master a certain number of secret "holo" professions, you would get your slot. But that method no longer works. The name comes from the device known as a holocron, which would tell you some of your secret holo professions.

fantastic, thanks for the advice.
the phase issue is probably because i don't quite understand the dynamics of it all, despite having read the forum guides (although I felt the same way about xp and levelling up in general before I started to play hands-on). So I'm assuming that if I ever make it to that point, I'll find out soon enough. the phases are just plain confusing, and I was wondering if there was a chance of not being able to unlock certain things in time, before the next phase sets in...
unless you unlock and then have an unlimited amount of time to grind the xp for it... so i would have to assume that the 3week phases are setup for you to unlock the trees, and not to grind them out. right?
anyhow, thanks for the advice, its much appreciated.

Thats correct. The 3 weeks is just a period when you can qo the quest to gain the right to train in a certain skill, earning the xp and acually training can take place anytime.
The only situation where you would not be able to unlock a quest in time is if you start a quest near the end of the 3 week phase and don't finish until afterwards. Most of the quest can be done in one night of playing. However, a couple are gated to the extent they take 2 or 3 days to finish. So if you started on the last day of a phase, you wouldn't be able to unlock that one until the village came back to that phase.
If you have anymore questions, I'm happy to try and answer them, but there are numerous excellent guides.

thanks, your answer really helped clear a few things up.
Here's another quick question though... from top to bottom (excluding the "glowy" part), how long does it take to get from "glowy" to Jedi Inititate (after the padawan trials)?? A rough estimate would do.
Much appreciated,
Lunga.

Minimum of 18 weeks, so you should factor in the cost of the other games you'll no doubt be playing while you wait for the phases to change.
Initiate is pre pad btw.

And 18 weeks assumes that you can grind a tree's worth of FS xp in three weeks. With grenades thats not too hard, but relying on regular weapon xp (and the combat xp that comes with it) that's not an easy grind.
