I've read (printed out, and re-read) the FAQs and the absolutely great writeups on this forum, but I have a bit of a problem with Whip's Phase 1 Quest. Maybe someone else here knows what to do. I took the quest (rescue the 5 prisoners) and rode out to my first WP. Once I got there, I started scouting the area for my targets. Suddenly, the game informed me, "You have completed your task! Your journal has been updated."
Now, I didn't kill anything yet. I figure someone else took them out on an agro. But the problems is that I have NO IDEA where the NPC I need to rescue is, and I have scoured the surrounding 1K area from the WP without success. For all I know he's dead. The next step in my journal is "Speak with the imprisoned villager." But again, that does me little good since I can't find the bugger.
Am I just hosed until the next phase then? Or is there a way to reset this quest? Perhaps even a way to track down my wayward NPC?
UPDATE: It nows says that the villager has been captured by the Sith Shadows. So I guess someone re-took this person hostage. Is there any way to re-get the mission NOW?

unless someone else knows a different work around, the unfortunate truth was that this bug used to reset itself with each day's server reboot. Without the daily reboot I'm not really sure what to tell you. tell a CSR, maybe you'll get lucky

Yarrrr. Well, that's not what I wanted to hear, but thanks. At least now I know where I stand.

have you gone back and spoken to whip yet???
I had a similar issue, but i actually found the person, killed the sith, and rescued the prisoner. I hoppen in my av-21 and went back to Whip, where he then told me that i failed and the person died. (remember the theme park rescue missions, you speak to the person, hop on the vehicle, head back, you're done... yeah)...he then gave me another waypoint to go to... my advice is go back to whip... if push comes to shove, abort the mission and come back, he will regive. i know this for a fact...
now, to find the camp, go in all directions around the wp he gives you, another waypoint will spawn, go there... wait at that waypoint for about 30 seconds... these are slow spawns, or maybe i'm just still too used to broadband and am using dial-up until wednesday... anyhow that's what you gotta do to find the prisoner...
when you get the prisoner, store your bike and make sure she stays within 60m of you the whole way walking back, and kill any and all agros you come across on the way back to the village. Took me about 45-50 minutes to get all 5 rescued.

I spoke to Whip several times. He just tells me to get on with my mission. WHen you say "ABORT" it, how do I do that? But now that I have been in space for a while, I notice that the mission from Whip is no longer in my Journal, where as my other Force missions are (the completed ones) Perhaps the villager finally died, and now it is resetting. I will have to go check. Here's hoping.
It's sad that I am hoping the villager died.

Apparently, patience was the key. My quest journal is now BLANK, so I guess I can go re-get the quest from Whip. Thanks to everyone who offered advice, I do appreciate it.
