Thread: A simple spelling/grammar lesson for Paemos

Please, can we get Paemos fixed? Or at least send HIM to school to learn something from US? When you convert your experience to FS experience, you get a system message saying that you "LOOSE" experience. I've been sending bugs on this ever since I converted my first point of experience on Testcenter. I would think most people could correctly use these words by the time they reached the second grade.

Here are some excerpts from the Mirriam Webster Dictionary:

LOSE:
Pronunciation: 'lüz
Function: Verb
1) to miss from one's possession or from a customary or supposed place
2) to suffer deprivation of

LOOSE:
Pronunciation: 'lüs
Function: adjective
1) not rigidly fastened or securely attached

Thank you for listening, and try not to laugh.

Of course I want a typo fixed, lol. Maybe you don't see the irony in this mistake. Paemos is a teacher. Also, I don't think it's a typo, I think it was actually a grammatical error. The guy that wrote the text that Paemos uses probably thinks he used the right word, and didn't just fat finger the "O" key.

And don't be so surprised, they fix typos all the time and put it in the patch notes.

btw, it is spelled "wierd".

lol. Engineers and programmers are notorious for bad grammer and spelling. We think in different terms and alot of us could care less about it unless it breaks the code somehow. What it does show, (no surprise here) is a lack of QA. Someone should have caught it and fixed it. Is it that hard for a DBA to go find a replace that string?

where do you get that from

we make sure we spell things correctly the 1st time so that when compiling we don't get syntax errors and have to go thru and make sure everything is spelled right

and it is that hard to finda spelling error in thousands of pages of code

I get that b/c I am one, lol, and after spending many years in the field most Engineers I know can't spell (myself included).

This guy already reported it. A production DBA can do a find and replace in the tables on the grammer error. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to do it considering they know exactly where it is now. BUT QA should have tested Paemos and caught it before it went live.

/agree. Please fix the spelling error.

I've posted several messages on it, both as a bug report and as a forum post.

It is not that I demand perfection. I make spelling errors myself, but there are two other principles to consider:

1. SWG is a publication, but it is a little heavy on the code side and a little light on the story side. That such an error is allowed to continue actually looks as bad for the game as a spelling error looks in a published book. Publications are typically proofread. It doesn't take a computer programmer to write text or to proofread it, so it doesn't have to decrease coding time.

2. It destroys immersion. For some, the game is an arcade, and immersion plays no part. For others, it is a role-playing fantasy, a chance to live in the Star Wars world. A spelling error such as that one reminds us that developers created it, and nothing in it is real. The same thing happens in a novel when one encounters an obvious error in spelling or in fact. It ruins the story by reminding you that someone wrote it.

Also, unlike changing game code, this only takes a few minutes in a text editor. It won't hurt game play in unforeseen ways.

Paemos isn't actually a teacher. Noldan is a teacher. Paemos is kind of like a psychiatrist as he wants to "understand your experiences".
