I have heard that once taken you cannot surrender FS skill boxes, is this simply an odd rumor? Or is it true?
Thank you for your help.

Depends what your talking about?
If your padawan you must always have 6 FS boxes. If you want another FS box in place of one you currently have you have to unlock the branch you want, dump xp into the branch you want, get it completely trained (which will give u 7 FS branches) then you can drop the FS branch you don't want anymore.
With that said, Jedi XP DOES NOT convert to FS XP. So, you have to keep your current profession or drop your current & grind another 1 to unlock the FS branch you want.
Example your TKM/Fencer, but u want the aurillian plant. Can't quest that because u need Master Medic & some Doc crafting. So, you have to drop either TKM or Fencer so you can grind Master Medic/Doc, inorder to do the quest for the plant.

I have a somewhat related question....What are the 'rules' that apply to the jedi and the second slot character? My original plan wasto open my second slot and make that character my jedi while my main character would surrender thepadawan professiononce unlocking in order to become a doctor/chef. Will this work or do I have to wait and maintain a 'jedi' character at all times? Thanks for any info

i am so confused
so....in order to be jedi ....you have to give up 24 skill points in total on your jedi toon???
right now i am master swords/master doc with scout .......leaving me 1 point.....if i give up all my scout it would give me 18 points but i would still need to give up 6 points in order to get my jedi? is that correct?

Well, not give up, but think of it as the pre-req. Just like you need medic for doc and that takes some sp, you need 6 full branches of FS skills to get Jedi Padawan (in addition to completing the exit quest and trials), and each of those boxes take a skill point (6x4=24 points). As you progress towards and up jedi you will eventually have to be dropping your skills anyway.

Thank you all for the help, sorry I was not more clear but my question was answered.
But a new one arrives, let me clarify.
Lets say you hold all 6 branches and padawan.
It seems you cannot drop any of those 6 branches, but can you gain a seventh and then drop one full tree that you dont want?
So would you only need 24 boxes? If you had more could you drop one of those village boxes? I just want to plan more carefully as I already have half the village boxes done.
Thanks again.

A full branch... you require 6 branches, if you train a seventh you can drop one of the original 6.

GAHHHHHH! DON'T SAY THAT.... It's not 24 boxes, it never was 24 boxes, It is 6 branches... we have a lot of repeat threads because of that rumour.

When you get Jedi Padawan you can't drop it, nor can you drop the 6 branches that are its prereq, so if you want to turn your 'main' into something non-jedi you must do it without the 24 sp you have invested in jedi. Additionally you will have to do the FS grind completely over with your second character. It makes A LOT more sense to just turn your second character into what you want (in your case: doctor/chef) and have your 'main' be your jedi.
