Does anybody know who might have trained vehicle control and also done space missions, if the vehicle control helps at all? Just a thought, cause if that would help make an ace pilot even better i'd try it.

Completely separate systems. You gain no benefit from force powers in space. Unfortunate, but true.

And for what it is worth ... I picked up the full vehicle control tree and I can say that its effect on ground based speeders is minimal. If it is convenient, pick something else.

I picked up VC due to how the Phase quests were as I Allready Had melee Speed so anyway I took this one.
I'd have to say it does make a difference on Ground based vehicles. I go from a standing start to Top speed Immediately.
It's fun to have lots more control over your swoops too.
But as it will never help my Jedi as I will use /Forcerun instead it is a bit pointless.

I have 1.2mil FSxp Banked from another tree though so I'll just change when I can unlock that branch.

Does it help when you're driving up steep hills or cliffs?

WRONG! Check the post-cu description of this tree. Vehicle control increases your pitch and yaw turning rates in space, that's solely what this tree is for. Anyway, this free is FS, not Jedi, therefore works as a bonus to current skills and doesnt use your force bar. I look forward to unlocking this during the next phase 2 to have a 7th FS tree. Vehicular Control in the Jedi Starfighter is going to be awesome

The Devs have already stated that it is solely a land based skill bonus nothing to do with space. It will help with turning radius and general manuverability. Also from dead to top speed quicker. Nothing really special. It is noticable though

Is that the mission that gives the 2000+ health buff crystal?

If so, it might just be worth to do the mission just for the reward, but not unlocking the full branch.
