Personally, I think that the brawler profs are the best/most fun profs in the game. Rifleman is very strong in PvP and good in PvE also, while BH is not that great in PvP (though can do fairly decent) but is versatile. Ultimately, you need to do what is fun for you. Experiment to find what you like.

Here are some generalized characteristics that I've found true for various profs that I've tried:

BH---good all around...not much defense, average in PvP, avearage in PvE

rifleman-----awesome in PvP, good in PvE also.

Pistols----decent stat defenses, weak in PvP( unless you add BH to it), decent in PvE

fencer----awesome in PvP, average in PvE....phenomenal defenses!!

Swordsman---probably one of the very best profs in PvE, a bit weak in PvP

TKA---good all around...not the best at anything, but not bad at anything either...overall very strong

Pikeman----very good in PvE...fun, but need a bit of work.

Those are the only profs that I can speak on, and of all of them, fencer and swordsman were by far my favorite profs.

Ranged profession eh? Well I have mastered them all and here are the details...

Bounty Hunter - Can't reccomend this one till they get def, without it they suck and I mean REALLY suck and the offense is not godly either. Average in PVE terrible in PVP.

Commando - Also pretty broken currently the only weapon that REALLY works in the flamethrower and half the damn creatures in the game are either immune or have high resists to it. Despite the fact that it really needs a revamp it is good in PVE. Good in PVP god awful in PVP.

Rifleman - Currently great, mind damage fast high damage good specials overall CURRENTLY the best ranged profession. It also is able to do heat energy cold acid and a couple other damage types very well... Great in PVE god in PVP especially if you toss in CM.

Pistoleer - Currently alone it is crap. Almost all the specials are broken/worthless/mediocre however if you go master pistoleer/BH pistol line then you will have one of the best combonations for both PVE and PVP plus since you said you like close range I would personally reccomend this one the most. Great in PVE great in PVP I personally reccomend it as long as you have the BH pistol line (you can also get investigation 3 for jedi hunting).

Carbineer - DON'T DO IT! Trust me.... Terrible in PVE terrible in PVP.

This had probley been asked hundred's of time, but hey I'm new .. lol, anyway what i wanna ask basically whats the best profession to pick? I've mastered scout, nearly marksman .. dunno what main profession to go for, trying a little creature handler doesn't seem that good, might go for bounty hunter when i get marksman and it becomes available.. So opinions please!

Best profession for what? What do you want to do with it? Give more specifics, then I'm sure someone will give their opinion.

I'm not entirely sure myself thats why I'm asking for others opinions on the best class.. I'm looking really for the best strength with guns really, also prefer short range over long. Whats BH good for?

I would define "best" as whichever profession will be the most fun for you. It really depends on your play style. (by the way, asking something like this is opening pandoras box )

If you want to be a crafter, there's a whole world of different choices. Droid engineers and chefs now have a reason to exist and there will always be a need for armorsmiths, weaponsmiths etc..

If you want to kick butt. And by this I mean open a can of whoop-buttocks, go with bounty hunter. Sounds like you're almost there anyway. You get big guns, nice specials, and cool abilities (tracking down people). If you want huge weapons of destruction, go with commando. They get flame throwers and rocket launchers. ouch.

If you want to goof off, have fun, and socialize, go with entertainer or perhaps image designer. I had a blast with my musician skills before I had to give them up.

I've been a creature handler since the game came out and I love it. I'm probably going to pick up bio engineer too. I like exploring and sneaking into monster lairs.

The best advice I can give you is take some of everything that interests you. When you run out of skill points, look at what you didn't end up using that much and get rid of it. Eventually, you'll wind up with the character that's right for you.

what is the best profession to grind through the villiage...I am currently debateing master BH or pistoleer? I figured MBH because I can max out carbines, pistols, and heavey weapons plus get a 1:1 convertion for investigations. but starting on investigations, it is a pain in the rear. Pistoleer is good because of fan shot...I can level several NPC's at one time...

also...if I master a group of about 10-15 professions, will I receive credit for it in the grind or will I have to start out and unlock all 6 boxes? Please help!

If you're willing to do the FS Senses tree, Master CM is VERY fast for 2/3 of it, apparently. I know that 0004 CM was fast enough to make the Doc grind ridiculously easy, 2000 XP per cast as fast as you coulduse stimswill do that...

...has mastered the Pilot profession
