I found this, try it
In response to everyone having the mellachae quest bug, this is the sollution, i did my Mellachae quest yesterday, and it WORKS:
Take the final red crystal down to 0/40000
Log out of star wars galaxies, leaving your friends to start hitting Mel
Log STRAIGHT back in again and the crystal will have de-spawned
Hit Mel atleast once, and you should be fine (hitting him before you log might be a better plan)
It worked fine for me as im now halfway through padawan trials.

even going to think about talking to the old man and then going to Mel. (Could be my worst mistake, since there is a chance for even more bugs now...)

He came in just the moment when i was digging up a treasure, from a treasure map disc.

PS. Why dont SoE fix some of the bug in FS ?? Every other, or almost, proffesions got some love today with release 17.. ?

also id like to note, my mission was bugged, and it took a CSR all of 35 SECONDS to respond and destroy the crystals for me since they wouldnt destruct.

I've probably taken a thousand shuttle rides this past 3 weeks lol. Tried every possible trick and suggestion on the forums bar standing on one leg and hoping around in cricles whilst chanting a prayer to the gods, which I will be attempting as soon as the servers come back up.
I've spoken to CSRs in live chat = submit a ticket and submit a bug report.
I've submitted several tickets = wait till he logs off then quickly close it and give him some nonsense about there being no set time for the Old Man visit.
I've PMed Tiggs = no responce.
I've submitted a bug report = no clue whether anyone has even looked at it.
I don't know what to do next really *sigh*.
Calm down! The way to complete the exit quest is to go with a group but the one who's mission it is stay ungrouped. That guy and ONLY that guy should take out the NON HEALING crystals one by one, preferably using a rifle. If someone else hits the crystals then it will bug and you will have to do it again. Once the crystals are destroyed then you can group up with your friends and they can now help you. Use a rifleman to drag Mel then the rest can gank him. I did this with 3 people and it worked a treat and yes it was after the CU.
One thing is that when you attack the crystals you will probably aggro one or two sith thugs. This isn't problem, just don't aggro any more than two as you will probably need help and this may bug the mission. Use ctrl + M to see which angle it is best to attack from so as not to aggro anything if possible.
I am positive this will work, if not you are siply not doing it right.

It's complete NONSENSE. Yes, the exit quest is bugged, but they fixed some of it already. If they didn't want anymore people to unlock they wouldn't of lowered the combat level of Mellichae.
He is bugged, but can still be SOLOED.
