Is there a "best" way to grind out the xp now?
Also, does the gernade trick still work?

take up MM and bounty hunter, along with whatever else is your preference cap out 3 different weapons xp + your combat xp.
Nades are only good now if your group is willing to let you. You won't be able to do it solo, and when you toss a nade you are gonna aggro all the creatures. Be prepared to die a lot with nades.. and make sure you ask your group first....
