What exactly do you have to do for both people to get credit? on the phase three combat quest
Please dont guess or tell me about someone youknow who did it...

when you first talk to the captain you have to pick if you want to take down the shields or escort the commander, you have to select it when you first take the quest and you cant change your mind so if you plan on doing it with a partner decide ahead of time before accepting the quest who is going to do what

It does not matter what you choice on the initial quest dialog.
But, if you do choose to have a partner, make sure one of you disables the shields and the other selects capture from the Radial menu.

If you pick to do it with a partner...then that partner decides to not do it can i group up with someone else that wants to do it as a partner?

Yes, I was in a group of ppl that several had the mission. Twice the guy that was gonna do it couldn't and another in the group stepped up and took his place. So even after one person drops the shield, anyone in the group that has the mission can talk to the commander and complete it. Only the 2 players get credit for it though. And as previously stated, it doesn't matter which part of the quest you chose in the dialog.
Simple : You need the quest to complete it and you must drop the shields or talk to the commander after your groupmateor do both to be eligible for the unlock. Then just get the slowest npc ever back to the village :-)
