xp isn't based on amount of damage for any weapon... based on how difficult the creatures are, with xp capping at around 5000 weapons xp and 500 combat xp

I thought that grenade use was yielding the weapons xp as all combat. Like 5k per kill comabt xp. Am I mistaken.

i was being more general, yes grenades give 5000 combat xp (as the weapon xp) then another 500 combat xp like normal, so total of 5500 combat xp, thats why everyone uses them. But grenades are the only thing that give combat xp as the weapon xp

If ya want a simple answer to your question it is Thermals are better. Why because the damage may be the same but with ap2 the damage isnt really the same at all. So thermals are the better of the 2 hands down.

Actually Imp Dets are better because they technically do more damage in PvE than the Thermals do.
Thermals are AR2 but that has no bearing in PvE since there is no armor. The modifier for extra damage only applies to PvP from what I can remember.
But theone thing that the thermals have going is that the resources that it takes to make them is generally less valuable than for Imps. That more than anything seems to be the driving factor here.
Either or in my book, I prefer the Thermals myself because they are easier to get

Well yes critters don't wear composite, but theyDO have armor. AP/AR calculation come into play whenever the mob is not vulnarable to your damage type (In this case "blast").
So if you use your thermals against, say giant baz nithches on dath, you'll get the extra AP2 dmg bonus since they have some blast resist.
