Thread: Combat levels as a Jedi

I was a armoursmith/master pistoleer, I dropped the crafting professions when I went glowee because I thought that I would be needing the higher combat levels in order to be a successful Jedi, butI find myselfmissing the crafting professions. My question is thus: Do I earn combat levels as a jedi up to 80th, or do you stay the combat level you are when you become padawan. or does it really matter.
You will raise your CL as Jedi.

Yes it matters what CL you are when you become a Jedi. You will be the same CL when you unlock and have second old man visit to exit the village and go do the Padawan trials. You then will earn Jedi exp to train in Jedi skills and will have to drop your non Jedi skills as you go to free up SPs. The higher your CL the more exp you will get per kill and if you wish to solo grind the better you will do. In terms of BHs non Jedi combat skills will help you survvive these encouters until you have enough Jedi skills. Once you have 4 full tiers of Jedi skills you will be CL 80 just based on your Jedi skills. Play the game however you want to but if youre going Jedi Id drop the crafting and pursue that with another character. Hope that helps!

I'm not sure this is 100% true, as the xp per kill will depend upon his skill with a saber, so even if he were a CL80 paddy with no Jedi skills he will only get little amounts of xp compared to someone with a full tree of LS skills.
But you should definately consider gaining some regular skills to help you while you grind, doc/cm and a combat profession would prove very useful if you start taking too much damage with your saber, and it shouldn't take too long to grind those professions.
Hope this helps
It's true. I'm almost finished grinding my jedi, and I can say XP definitely scales with your CL, just like any other profession.
Its true, a CL80 paddy with novice sabers should get ~1k Jedi xp per CL80 kill, its just based on your CL not what skills they are in.

The amount of damage you do is based on the quality and generation of your saber and the level of your saber skill. The amount of xp you get is determined by your CL and your group bonuses. The two are not related except to say that with a higherdamage output you kill quicker, hence yougain xp quicker.
As you drop your non-Jedi skills your CL will initially drop... depending on what skillset you keep you may drop into the low CL50's. Jedi hit CL80 earlier than non-Jedi profs though, with 4 full branches/single mastery.
Using non-Jedi skills while grinding, though sometimes necessary early on, will steal Jedi xp in favour of that other type of xp... medic xp if you heal with bactashot, for example, or rifle xp if you use one to finish off a mob. The exception is CM DoT's... you can use them without losing Jedi xp. Useful for pulling a mob (no Force cost, 32m ranged attack) and helping to take down the mob by piling on a bit more damage and applying a combat speed debuff.

I managed to keep CL 80 all the way through my early days, I initially had ranger/rifles and dropped the ranger skill then the rifles skills step by step, not once did I drop below CL80 so it is possible to stay CL80 as you work your way up
This is true, I think I dropped down to CL 76 at my lowest point but no lower than that. The key is to work on trees rather than filling all the low boxes that way you'll keep your CL up.

Banking xp as you grind works well for many people. You don't get the new abilities to play with all the time, but you can keep your CL high. More importantly you'll be more likely to be able to fighta BH off with your non-Jedi skills, and with less SP invested in Jedi you'll lose less xp if you doget killed.

This is great advice and actually how I plan to do it
