Thread: At what point should I attempt to become Force Sensitive?

I have only had the game a few days so far. I would like to become force sensistive (I understand becoming a Jedi is a long tedious process....I will decide later if I want to go farther). I want to be FS for role play/character reasons if nothing else.

Anyway, I currently have have a few novice artisan skills (1-1-1-1), 1-2-1-1 Marksman, and a few other misc skills. About 15k in the bank. Transportation (Swoop and Speeder) and some basic supplies (blaster, stim packs, crafting tools, whatever).

How long till the FS quests are in reach? Can I start now?

You must first get a visit by the "Old Man". To get a visit you must meet certain qualifications. You do this through "Badges", POI badges,Content Badges (themeparks), and must master at least two professions. There are some guides that explain everything that can be and need's to be explained.

Yeah I understand that part. What I need to know is if I am strong enough already to do this stuff...can any new character do this or do you need to beef up some skills first? I am just now at the point where I can kill things in the Cornet front yard without dying too much.

Is there a minimum you'd recommend before I even try this stuff or can any n00b do it?

It depends on the goals you have in mind for your character. If you're going mainly artisan/crafter, you'll need to bear in mind that you'll have a difficult time with some of the combat-oriented theme-park badges, like the ImperialRetreator theRebel Base theme parks. Also, the Sith Shadow NPCs in Phases 3 and 4 are very tough, especially the Thugs. Fortunately, those missions are a long way off.

I'd say start with the "exploration" badges. Most of those are easy and fun to pick up, so you can start on them immediately, especially the set around Tatooine.Just stay on your bike if you venture to the Great Sarlacc, because it likes to cough up gobs of nasty goo that will disease you if you dawdle.

Once you get to level 3 or 4 in a combat skill, you can start thinking about doing the Jabba theme park. You'll want to have a suit of composite armor for the theme parks, to protect you against the NPCs' energy weapons. So depending on your cash flow, that might be the limiting factor for you, more so than your combat skill level.

Nym's Palace is a step or two up, mainly because it's on Lok instead of Tatooine. The missions themselves aren't all that difficult; you can figure on being successful as a low-level elite combat profession.

After that, the ante goes up a bit with the Imperial Retreat or Rebel Base(s). With these, you start running into NPCs like Stormtrooper Commandos that like to hit you with knockdown/dizzy combo attacks. My recommendation would be to be fairly high-level in an elite combat skill, and know your way around some basic food buffs. Thakitillo (the anti-knockdown food) is a lifesaver here.

And then, you can mix and match depending on your personal tastes in gameplay. Most people will investigateThe Warren on Dantooine for their last two "theme park" badges. Others will go hard-core and pick up one or two badges from either the Rebel or Imperial Corvette. The Warren is more of a story-driven exploration dungeon, which places a premium on puzzle solving rather than combat. It's fun, with a fascinating storyline. The Corvette, on the other hand,is definitely a high-level combat environment, with super battledroids and very tough NPC's. You'd want to only go there as a full elite master combatant, fully armored, and as part of a high-powered group that knows how to work as a team.

Hopefully, that will get you started on your own journey to the Glow. Be sure to check you progress by typing /che or /check as you go. Good luck!

Actually, all you need for profession masteries is one mastered profession. Even just one of the six basic professions will do.

So I guess the short answer is that, no, I am not high enough yet to do anything other than the POI badges; I need to be intermediate level. At the very least I will need to master one profession, which I am not even close to doing yet.

Thank you for the detailed explanation though. A lot of that information is not in any of the game guides I have seen (or else it is explained poorly) so it will be a lot of help. I am saving your post for future use.

The disks are WAY cheap now...$20 each. I got the game, the JtL expansion, and a 60 day game card for about what I paid for Everquest by itself way back when. All starting games and 90 days of game time for $70. Not a bad deal.

I obviously have a LONG way to go, heh heh. I will have to look up some guides to see how to get past the early grinds. City of Heros had very little grinding, so I am still getting used to it again. But the game looks like a lot of fun, and is the most complex and detailed MMOG I have played so far.

The first character I did it on "got glowy" on becoming Master Marksman. He did the Jabba themepark with three boxes in rifles & pistols and the Rebel with four in each. It wasn't until after he was glowing that he had an elite novice box.

Starting an elite profession will make it easier to complete, and if you want to do the trials it's almost manditory, but not necessary for the most part.

The cool part about this game is that your way is the best way. I would suggest a combination of all the above. Find your way through your professions, like Artisan and the combat you have chosen. In going through Artisan you will be travelling eventually to set harvesters most likely. It is always good to be able to shoot the beasties that spawn where you want to put them, so level up in combat first. Once you feel good about being about to defend yourself, go explore the planets. Tatooine has a few POI's that like a previous poster said you can sorta drive around and see what's there and get the badge. The main thing is not to hurry, but do things as you progress through the game.

Once you have gotten through the basic part of your combat profession, you will probably end up on Dantooine to get some xp for the elite part if that is your wish. There are a few POI's on there as well to go see. When I was there I went to the swamps and went back home via the cloner because I picked a fight with some rats. I never got the badge...

The theme parks are on different planets, at least the Rebel one is, so you could start one of the parks on the first planet and bring a buddy. Once you finish that one, you could let the next one go for a bit to level up in your combat profession. They do get harder, not a bunch, but a good idea to have the skills when you need them. When doing the Warren, I would suggest at least a buddy, or small group to go with you. I tried to do this alone, and died 5 times even though I was a somewhat high TK artist. Mostly I died because I was less than able to follow the map and guide I had in front of me, and a buddy who had been there before could have helped the first time.

Another theme park is Jabba's, and that is another that you could do progressively, while you set up your shop in the other professions. I waited and waited and sorta did these all in one day, which is possible but not recommended. I say this because once I hurried around and finally got glowy, I waited.....and waited....and waited for the Old Man to appear. Even using the tricks which you will find around here somewhere to speed up the visit, he still took almost three days to find me, which by that time I had given up and went to do other things. Not long after that I logged in and started to work on my factory and got attacked by the first sith. After that I was pretty happy and except for speeding through phase 4, and dying lots, I have gone back to just playing the game.

I may never be a Jedi, because of the Skill Points my Professions take up (TKM/Master Ranger), but I like the idea of just being FSand will take my time going through those boxes.

If you wanted a brief summary, here it is: Be patient and play the game! It is Star Wars Galaxies, not Jedi Galaxies, although proof to the contrary may be evident.

Like I said in my first post, my goal at the moment is just to become Force Sensitive...I have not decided if I want to go into Jedi training at all yet. I would end up having to surrender all my other skills, and I dont know if I want to do that.

I got to see my first Jedi battle since joining the game last night. It was at the Cornet starport on Intrepid server. It did look really cool (the Jedi actually lost to some martial artist guy). It was actually neat, although it was basically just a sabre duel. None of the cool force powers were used (TK-choke, lightning, ect..)

THIS is the information I was looking for actually. The general consesus seems to be not to try the FS stuff until you have almost mastered at least one combat profession. I am not even close to that yet.
