I have read about free unlocks on various web pages. How do i recieve them?

You can't.

Free unlocks were only issued to people who had followed the old path of becoming a jedi (hologrinding), mastering some, but not all the professions they needed to unlock.

The pre-patch Jedi were allowed 6 free trees (6 are required to become Jedi, since they already unlocked they were granted 6 freebies). For those such as myself that did some hologrinding (a small cube that was used to tell you what profession to master, the old path to becoming a jedi), we were allowed a couple free branches to compensate for the hours we put in to grinding jedi.

FYI: After you use a free unlock you can still do the quest if you would like to get the reward.
