i just beat melechae and im still showing im not an initiate i have tried to scour the boards for something about this and i havent.do i have to talk to someone or am i bugged?

You have to do the paddy trials...half way through....you get to construct a saber....thats when you get initiate.........

i think u have to do the padawan trials first. After u do enough quests u get to craft ur lightsaber and become an initate

I have defeated Mellichae and looted him. My quest journal shows the mision as a success. When does my rank show as Initiate (it still says FS)? Also how (and when) exactly will I be directed to a shrine?

you get the initiate tag when you have crafted your first saber. as for the shrine, i think you should already have a wp. check your datapad for one. if you havent got one, just go to the jedi forums and check the stickies, there is a list of shrine waypoints there. just go to any one of these and do /kneel, then choose meditate from the radial menu

does that mean that I should be able to do that now? Or not until the padawan trial to do so?

What you do after Mel is you have to go to a shrine and start the padawan trials. When you pass 8 of the 16 you craft your first saber. It is at this time you become an initiate!! Also you must do /kneel in front of the shrine B4 u do meditate or it will not allow you to meditate!
