To add insult to injury I have been dumping all of my xp into FS combat xp. I have almost enough to train in the full tree as soon as I unlock the tree. This means I'm going from being able to become a jedi initiate TODAY to having to wait SIX WEEKS before being able even attempt to unlock my last tree. All due to a GAME BUG!

This is not my responsibility to fix. I would bite the bullet had I simply made the mistake of choosing the wrong NPC. However, I never should've been allowed to accept the quest to begin with!

The game needs to check to make sure you have not already unlocked a tree!

some people still do the quests to gain the rewards

Unfortunately nobody can do anything about this. You need to make sure what quest you pick from the NPC, it even tells you which line you are going to unlock and asks if you are sure.

And as said, some people go back to do quests again even though they have unlocked that line already in order to get the rewards.

OUCH!!!

I can't imagine how you must feel. However, the NPC's that offers the quests state clearly what skill youwill be receiving,if you accept and complete the mission - even make you confirm it. Needless to say it is of high importance to read what you are agreeing to and not to follow word of advice from someone else, even though they mean no harm. As others stated before, some individuals will do a given FS Tree for the nice rewards. But, perhaps they could do a better job in HIGHLIGHTING the skill that is offered i.e. MELEE ACCURACY so that it stands out better for those of us who may glance through things by hitting the next button really fast. I too made a mistake by capping weapons xp and accidently transferred the xp to a Combat Prowess (Fully Mastered 4444), thinking it was going to Enhanced Reflexes. Needless to say, that only happened once.

Ok I do feel sorry for you, however I feel the need to point out a few things to you..

The system allowed me to do a mission for a tree I had already completed with the hologrind
Yes the system does this so you can gain the quest reward item, after all you would probably complain if you couldn't get some of the items because you used free unlocks.

This means I'm going from being able to become a jedi initiate TODAY
You probably wouldn't have become Jedi Initiate today because you have to wait for the old man to visit you again, then you have to defeat Mellichae and then you have to get half way through your padawan trials and craft your training saber - I doubt that you would have managed all that in a day.

All in all the problem you had was that you didn't read the screen properly, I suppose the moral of the story is..

also, I thought that before you accept the mission, he asks you one more time if this [name] is the mission you want. Who are you blaming, your friend, SOE? You should have done your homework I guess.

Normally I would have. But a complicated sequence of events led me to believe incorrectly which quest it was. I did my research and learned that doing the quest with a partner will gain an extra reward. So I asked a friend if they wanted to do it together. They asked me how far along I was. I said I hadn't started. They told me they had started it but couldn't talk to Dageerin until the next day. I assumed (mistake) they had chosen the correct NPC. We discussed when we would team up a few times, each time deciding we had more important matters so we put it off. So when I finally went to start my quest, I had talked to this friend enough where I was convinced Dageerin was the person to talk to. So my guard was down when I clicked accept without paying a whole lot of attention.
Turns out we _both_ took the wrong quest.

I had no idea you could only unlock one tree per phase, if I had known that I would've payed a whole lot more attention. When I clicked accept, the quest giver said "this quest may take several days, it may even take three weeks". It say MAY not that it WILL take you out of commission for three weeks. That's why I clicked accept without thinking too much about it.

1 - Not quite. The quest rewards are quite worthless compared to getting a full tree instantly unlocked and trained. Unless you consider a 5 use +10 ranged defense item "good". Don't use 'em all at once......

2 - A minor difference. It wouldn't take me very long once the last tree is unlocked and filled, however. I play quite a bit, which is part of the reason why this is so frustrating. I'll be standing around with nothing to do for six weeks.

Its a shame and I feel sorry for you but as you said in your last post you 'made an assumption (mistake)'. Hologrinders rightly get the chance to do the missions for rewards and you get plenty of chance to opt out of the mission. But perhaps the biggest mess-up here is that the NPC's do (albeit in a roundabout way) mention what skill unlock the quest will give you. So the lesson here is not to whip through the conversion with the NPC and assume you are doing the right one.

You made an unfortunate mistake but the blame cannot fairly be attributed to anyone other than yourself.

I know how hard it is to find out you must wait. I thought I would be done in phase 1 - WRONG. The last unlocks I need are phase 4 ranged speed and phase 3 ranged defense. I wont be able to finish up until the coming phase 3, so I have an additional9 weeks minimum once we hit phase 4of server uptime to get a crack at my last unlock.
