When I arrive at the ship on Endor, do I have to manually find the supplies and pick them up, or are they just placed in my inventory automatically? I ask because I got to the ship, started running around the thing frantically looking for the supplies before being ganked by the sith with no luck.

all you do is get close to the ship and then they pop in your inventory then head back to the vilalge .. i did this without having to do any combat at all

You may have found a ship for somebody else's mission, it's not uncommon to find two or three ships around the area.

I did this quest late at night when less ppl are online to make sure I didn't find somebody elses ship
