Do light and dark jedi have the same powers and skill trees, or do they have ability sets? In games like KOTOR or Jedi Academy, the light side usually have defensive powers and the dark side have force lightning and choke and offensive oriented powers. Is galaxies like that, or do all jedi have access to all skill branches for game balance or whatever?

Well first Light/Dark only comes up at Knight and above (well in the middle of the Knight trials you pick a side). Before Knight, all Jedi (Imp or Reb) are the same.

At Knight+, each side gets different bonuses to Force abilties, just like you've said, Light Jedi's bonuses are slanted toward Healing and Enhancement, while Dark Jedi's are slanted toward offensive power. But, both sides get access to the same abilties. Meaning a (Light) Jedi Knight can be a Master LS/Master Powers (Lightning, Push, Choke) and a Dark Jedi Knight can be MLS/Master Healer.
