same goes for pets too..i was out w/ someone last night and at first we had his pet in group and xp was divided..and then for the hell of it i added mine and we saw it get divided up even more 
my poor pet won't be coming out to play unless i really need the help now!...poor kitty....
A droid will take a smidge away from the total exp based on its damage contribution relative to yours. But far far less than adding another player to your group will. (assuming you can outdamage your droid and outlevel it.) You'll barely notice the impact in comparison to being in a group these days.
