If you want things to go smoothly it would be best to master a combat profession. doesnt really matter which one. Could be anything from tkm to m.rifles. Having a mastered profession will allow you to do the quests and gather your XP for transfer to FS xp without relying on others to help you everyday.

You should do everything before jedi. Finish your template, enjoy the game, explore, get badges etc.... don't just play to do jedi mate, or you'll miss out on the other fun things this game has to offer.
cheers.

If you want to MINDLESSLY grind just go like TKM and 4000 commando with the rest thrown around where you like. Just use TKM for everything normal and grenades to grind FS. It's pretty boring and straightforward. The grinding at least.

Would any elite combat profession be able to handle taking on Sith shadows and such for the Force Sensitive branch unlocks?

I'm a TKM and can generally take the sith outlaws and pirates, even if they are in a 5-6 size group. However if you get three or more thugs on you your dead meat without help, I don't care what you are those thugs are tough suckers.
