Imp detonators with damage power ups work great. I do them on Baz Nitches on dant, mission pay outs are 11k so I can make some decent money in the process.

Wear good blast armor though.

Really? And if you have to be in a solo-group to get the missions how do you make 'decent' money from the payout?

i used both of them and really didnt notice any difference, although thermals have lower damage output the AP2 more than makes up for it.

Just buy whichever one works out cheaper you wont really notice MUCH of a differnece imo

thermals with ap2 is better but not by much and with pwr-ups it goes even quicker.

I vote for Thermal Detonators. With the ap2 and with good powerups they are more than enough to get the job done.

Ok folks check it out. Thermals do about 200 less damage (usually around 800-1800 dmg) than Imperials (900-2000 usually). But thermals have AP2 and Heat damage whereas Imperials have AP1 and Blast. Most people grind Baz Nitches which have 20% blast armor and are vulnerable to heat. 20% of 2000 = 400, so max dmg is reduced to 1600. Clear enough?

last time i checked my thermals, they were blast damage ??

also imps have only 4 radius compared to thermal wich have 7 radius. It is very annoying to have just 4 radius because the mobsonly have to move a little away and they are harm free

I vote for imp dets. I've tried both extensively and imp dets are better IMO.

Thermals are blast (Protones are heat). Your equation is a bit wrong though. With Thermals damage is damagex1.25x1.25x0.8 (20% resists), with Imps damagex1.25x0.8. Those 1.25 is the AP bonus. So

If you attack somethingwhich is vulnerable to the damage type on your weapons you get no AP bonus. In that case Imp detonators are better.

My Imp detonators have 2200+ damage.

Don't be in a solo group?

I don't have to be in a solo group to get giantbaz nitch missions, I don't know about the original poster though. I was talking about myself, I'm able to make good money from grinding the combat exp.

And 11k per lair is a 'decent' amount of money for a mission.
