Thread: I Solo'd Mel today...a play by play.
My name is Quadra Jet, I am Master Rifles / TKM. I unlocked my 6th branch, met the old man and solo’d Mel today. Allunbuffed, no food or stims, really crappy Tantel armor and a mediocre T21...here's how my day played out.
I unlocked my 6th branch this morning, melee defense. Phase 4 was a lot easier this time around (did it pre-cu last time), maybe because there were 2 Jedi in our group? BTW, I didn’t know any of the people in my group, but I have to thank them for keeping me alive.
Once I trained in Melee Defense, I was wondering if I had actually unlocked. My 6th Quest didn’t say anything except “kill sith outlaws”, “kill sith pirates”, no “Quest Completed” or “you’ve learned melee defense” or anything like that. I was worried, but put my trust in the force that I had actually triggered the old man. I played for a couple more hours, shuttling to different player cities, each time walking out 1000m and then back to the shuttleport. Since I work at night, I logged out and went to sleep.I woke up at around 4PM and started shuttling/walking 1KM, watching for the old man. The first player city I hit, I walked out 1KM and there he was, waiting for me. Mel’s camp was just over 1600M from my location.
I had helped a friend (pre-cu) with Mel and I have to say, with two MRM, it was pretty easy, until we had to fight Mel himself. He hit for a LOT...luckily we kited him into a lake and then it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Seeing that no friends were online, I realized that I would HAVE to take Mel and his friends on solo. I drove around the camp a couple of times, assessing the situation and lay of the land, Mel’s camp was situated on the plain just below Theed (in between the two rivers). Not a lake, but I figured that if I got lucky, I could kite them (via speederbike) to one of the rivers.
Just like the stickied walkthrough says, there were 2 green crystals, 2 red crystals, 6 ranged sith (thugs & mercenaries) Dakmor Bloodmoon and Mel himself. First, I took cover and conceal shot/destroyed the first healing green crystal. Then, I turned my attention to one of the red crystals. It took me 4 shots to realize that I am dumb, and remembered that I need to take out the other green crystal before taking out the reds. I took out the other green crystal, took out the first red crystal and then concealed the last red crystal down to about 1K (from 40K), being careful not to destroy it and trigger MORE ranged sith to show up. I noticed a Jedi Initiate sitting a few meters away from me, must have been bored because he was obviously watching. I thought he might help...he didn't, but of course I didn't want his help anyway...Rebel Scum. ![]()
Istarted inon the lower sith, thugs and mercenaries. The thugs were easy, but the mercenaries killed one of my bikes and had a KD/Dizzy that they’d hit me with often. Strangely, the only damage I was taking was from my own specials. I killed the minor sith, took out the last crystal and then more minor sith spawned. I started in on them again, and drew some aggro from Dakmor, who killed my 2nd speederbike. Dakmor KD’d me and then some weird warping occurred and Dakmor + 2 sith thugs were standing over me, but I was taking no damage. Then started heading back to the camp while I was laying on the ground, dizzy. I got back up, killed the rest of the minor sith and then pulled out my last vehicle (landspeeder). I set my sights on Dakmor, he was actually quite easy, but he killed my landspeeder too.
Now I’m stuck with no vehicles, so kiting Mel to the river was pretty much out. I started concealing Mel, got about 4 shots in when he discovered my location. I got up and hit him with headshots while running for my life. This is where it gets weird....I was within 10m of Mel during most of the battle, except when he retreated(?) back to his camp. Not once did he hit me, not once did I see a light saber, not once did I take any damage from Mel...all my damage was from my specials.
Anyway, I ended up killing him and now I’m ready for my Paddy Trials. Other than the minor sith and Dakmor, Mel is pretty dang easy now, apparently all of you who have to beat Mel can thank the devs for throwing us a bone.
I know I am.
Well I did Mell last night, and I had to get a full group of 8, most of which were CL80 (I'm a TMK/MPike/medic). We tried it with 5 people of mid-high level but got dropped 3 time. Even with the level 80's we took two goes, but the first one a crystal was bugged in the ground. When we finally finished it, it was fairly easy. I think the problem was that we had mostly melee people along. It doesn't surprise me at all that a MRifle can solo it, particularly with conceal shot.
Incidently, I also helped someone do their Mell mission a few days ago. We have a full group of mid-high level people, most of which were range. We breezed through it first go that time, which looking back at it, seems to be due to all the ranged attack we had.
Moral of the story, if you need to do Mell, get plenty of ranged support. 8)

I agree with this, 100%, ranged is the way to go imho.
Also, I figured that my Mel mission was a fluke, because it was (relatively) easy for me, and I'm not that great of a player.![]()
