The way I did it when that happened is to save the WP to the guy that you get in the first place. I went back there and he was still there, so I was able to talk to him and get the trial. For all of those "kill" trials, you rarely get the return WP, so there were many times I tried going back to city searching NPCs hoping I'd find the right one. Save the waypoint before you go do the trial.

Is the person you need to speak to to finish it on Rori by any chance?

If yes, then go to a shrine and get a new trial on a different planet and then redo it.

I have had this same problem with the falumpaset trial, no return waypoint. But if you go to where they were before, they are there and I finished the trial. So save those waypoints just in case. (FYI: mine was on talus)

Sometimes when hopping planets the WP was not activated so I would just go into the Datapad and activate it.

Also, making a WP would help too.

I would duplicate the WP, to be sure I could finish the quest ... and it was a good thing, a time or two. The out-and-back missions, I didn't bother, but planet-hopping, it's important.

This is exactly what happened to me.

I would also advise doing this. If you can remember the planet you started the mission from, then go there, check your datapad and you'll see the wp in there most likely, deactivated. Just activate and go
