well if you have a crystal then the sith will come eventually, just be patient... and be prepared cuz they aren't that easy to solo unless you are pretty high CL

This is only a guess but that time you logged in for 10 minutes, the Sith very likely spawned to ambush you but were too far away from you for you to notice. When you logged out you failed the ambush mission, your crystal was removed from your inventory. So, when you logged in that night the Old Man came, his second visit to you.
You will want to expand your radar to 124m if it's set to 64m right now. If it's set to 64m that may be way you never saw the Sith spawn. You may also have been traveling on your mount and just zipped right away from them never knowing they were there.
Otherwise, don't worry about it. After the old man visits the Sith will ambush you much quicker. You will want to spend time online though because this is somewhat an important time for you. Once you get thru this part and get to the village then you can go back to casual playing times.
I did it with CL 58
Mind you I am a master rifleman...so when the first appearedI ran like hell, went back and fought them one at a time. They don't walk right up to you...so i ranged them to death. Same as the camp. Most were surprised I was able to do this...it must have been much tougher for others

rifleman definitely has an advantage in this aspect. but still, the first two times i got ambushed they spawned fairly close to me and i was not able to burst run out of range before i was incapped. i was only able to kill them on the third time because they spawned while i was in a hunting group and everyone helped me take them out.
