Thread: Nothing can be done to guarantee first old man visit

I heard old wives tales up the ying yang when I was on my quest for glowy as to how to act when you become glowy to get the Old man to come quicker or whatever.

I am here to say that there is no truths to that information save one. You wont get the visit in combat. And this one is only a half truth. Reason: A friend of mine was out pve'ing and got his.. The only reason he missed his visit was because you cant start a conversation while in combat, so you can get the visit but if you dont kill your target in time you cant start the convo.

Another: Stay out of player cities and npc cities. Negatory. On one character I had my visit in Dearic, Talus. On the other I received it in Rebirth, Talus (Naritus Server).

Another: Stay away from people and be by yourself. Negatory my second char's visit came while grouped and chatting with friends.. some dueling and trading going on.

Another: Stay out of buildings of all kinds. Well I can honestly say that starports and cantinas he will visit you in as I was in the Rebirth cantina when a fellow guildie got his visit. As well as watching someone get a visit in a starport. So the only thing that can be true about this is perhaps ___Stay out of private houses/buildins___ But I can not confirm this one way or another.

Another: He will come to you within the first 15 minutes of your log in. NEGATORY. I went glowy on my first char one day, got the visit the next day.. HOWEVER I was grinding on the ground for about 5 hours that day as well as in space the rest of the day on that character. I landed in Rebirth and missed the visit.. I was looking at my second screen talking on IM programs and running my char into Rebirth cantina. When it said he runs away i noticed that system message and was disheartened. So he can come after that first 15 minutes.

A side note to the previous wives tail is that it does hold some truth. Ill explain here: The old man will visit within 15 minutes of logging in AFTER he has visited you once and you missed him. On my first character I missed him and was disheartened. I logged out for a few hours to watch a movie and get my mind off of it. When I logged in a few hours later I was still sore on the subject and didnt have the heart to really do anything so i ran around rebirth looking at stuff for no real reason. Next thing you know within 15 minutes I get my visit again WOOHOO.

To confirm this, on my second character I was stupid enough to not watch the screen not once, but TWICE. Yes I needed THREE visits on my second character. This is when I confirmed the "in the city/around people/etc" wives tales as being false. As the first visit came around friends. They were shocked I got my visit with them around/in a city. And laughed that I was stupid enough to be semi-afk. I took them for their word and ran off into the wilderness and sat by myself for nearly 2 hours. With no return visit I grew angry and said to hell with it. Rejoined my friends in the city and thought hmmm I am going to try logging out and back in again.

So I logged RIGHT OUT to desktop and back in again. Then I started logging in a second character on my second pc and looked back at my screen to see the old man run away again!!! This visit came within 2 minutes of my login on that character. And I said well thats the key. logging in and out. So I did it again and glued my eyes to the screen for my third visit from the old man. Sure enough at the 12 minute mark I got my third visit. So ALL of my second/third visits came within the 15 minute mark of logging in that much is true.

This is my tale to help new players deal with getting their visit and not have to put up with the BS that some players have spat out and all of a sudden some/many took it as real logical information. Now of course I could be wrong, there could be one, two, a few characters out there that DID get their first visit 15 minutes from logging in, it could be the old man showed up to someone at one point and ran away instantly because he had friends around or was in a house/structure, or just got out of combat. However I have seen with my own eyes instances where that DIDNT happen.

all interesting stuff... but, negatory isn't a word, even if you write it in capitals.
