Ok, before someone starts flaming me, I'm done with the FS grind myself, this is just a reflection, not a way to get an easier grind for myself, but a sugestion to improve the gaming experience for others.
Why not raise the xp caps for weapons xp to at least 3 mill so that it will cap at the same time as combat xp?
That would certainly improve the situation for casual gamers and people who can't afford to buy grenades for a couple of millions, or just don't feel like grinding it that way.
The conversion ratio is fine in my opinion, but why not reduce the number of trips that players have to make to the village?
Just a thought, and I was wondering how do others feel about this.
I think it would be simple enough to implement for the developers and i can't really see any drawbacks with this myself, but I'm not all seeing and there may be a reason for the way things are, but if this is the case I'd like to know.

I wholeheartedly agree with you! its just grief to make us drive out there to convert all the time. last night I had like an hour and half to play.. I already had some xp, so icapped out in an hour made the run to the village oh wait its under attack and no one is there... cool 300 sith no converting for me
so now I get to try and run out there again tonight and waste another 20 minutes minimum just to get my 60 fs woohoo!

Or why not----when the oldman gives you the crystal, you can convert from the crystal in your inventory? hmm? hmm?

I think honestly there is supposed to be some measure of inconvenience involved. This i feel will make being a jedi feel more special to you, it will me, till i get yoked by a BH the first time.

There ARE skills that should have higher caps but I don't think the combat skills do
Combat skills gain xp quite quickly and have high cap (if you consider the combat xp too)
Medical is bad, crafting is sometimes bad, and that says nothing about the speed with which one can gain other xp
Please note - I have a character with combat, reflex and crafting andsense unlocks so I have a full spread to go at so starting to get a picture at the comparitive ease/speed/fun/tedium involved in the different xp types
Caps are only part of the picture - speed of gain, convertion rate, fun/tedium factorand cap are all important but the fun/tedium factoris the thing that makes the difference from one person's opinion to another

The only reason I can think of for low caps is to make you travel back and forth more resulting in a slower grind, more money spent on buffs, and thus a bigger moneysink, and to make it a pain in the butt to discourage people.
Nothing else makes sense.

Kinda funny the way you put it there since the XP caps were the same before the village was even on the drawing board.
Saying the caps are this way because of it is not true.
I've finished my FS grind all 6 branches withought grenades making X amount of trips back and forth.
Village trip is a timesink like the quests themselves along with the XP grinding.
Main purpose is to discourage those that would take it lightly and to somewhat hold off the Powergamers from obtaining it too quickly.
Once you reach Jedi u hit another timesink with only receiving 10% of the XP a normal profession recieves per kill and XP requirements in the Multi-millions. This part can only be felt when you finally reach initiate craft your first LS and TRY to kill your first low level mob. It gets a little better as u advance but until u hit a 4th box in saber of your choosing it can be rough and discouraging and the possibility for setbacks can make it worse.
The village trip is a minor inconvenience to the FS XP needed and the wait to unlock Branches.

Ill be happy once im swinging a lightsaber. Grind or no grind it has been a goal to achieve. It is only a grind if you make it feel monotonous. Enjoy being a jedi role play it up if need be to make you feel the part.

I really don't understand the set-up they implemented. I can think vaguely around it and sort of propose that FSXP is exchanged based on the difficulty level of obtaining the experience your trading.
I am sure it was based on that line of reasoning anyway. The problem is that crafters are really getting the short end of this stick, and naders are getting the easy path (comparitively speaking). It's sort of funny because I am sure when they thought all this up they wereseeing combat xp as a very hard target, I mean up until the last couple of months WS rarely made grenades....certainly not to the extent they are being manufactured now.
My opinion is that weapons xp was used as a baseline and all the other xp that is tradeable was either above or below it's scale...in other words the trips out and exchange rate etc. for weapons xp is probably about where they thought it should be and was ultimately designed to discourage the masses.

the experience caps are designed to prevent players from hoarding xp and then training entire professions in moments. experience caps at 2x the xp required for the highest box earned. combat xp caps at 300k because it costs 150k to train a tier 4 elite profession skill that requires combat experience. weapon xp caps at 900k because the highest box costs 450k to earn.
a player who is a rifleman for a long time whochanges professions to become afencer is prevented from immediately training xxx4 in fencer gaining those benefits the moment he gains novice fencer. he is also prevented from returning to the rifleman profession and mastering it in minutes because he hoarded millions of rifle xp while a rifleman.
the xp caps were designed a long time ago without the village at all in mind.
i'm sure no thought was put into frequency of trips when designing the village. they calculated how long they wanted it to take someone to grind if they powergrinded force sensitive xp. then they set the conversion ratio to reach the result they desired. trips to actually convert the xp were inconsequential. when the village was in beta, the conversion for weapon xp was 10:1 and they changed it to 30:1 at the last minute because testers were advancing too quickly.
the fact that grenades grant combat experience completely circumvented their intentions and just as doc's now buff for 2800+ and armor has base 75+ resists and combat medics can throw poison that ticks at 1000 per tick.... the mechanics of the game have provided a loophole that enables consistent extreme results.
the combat rebalance will address all of these problems and i bet the experience granted for grenades gets changed to something other than combat xp sometime soon. i for one know that if i could not have used grenades to grind fsxp... i would not have powergrinded through the village. i would have traded in xp casually as i earned it playing regularly like i'm sure they wish everyone would. instead i burned through 6 branches in 14 days once i had all the unlocks i needed.
then i discovered the true pain of grinding. novice lightsaber. you do no damage. you have no armor. you need millions of xp and you earn one tenth for a mob that a normal profession earns. go.

That would be to easy.
They want you to have to make more trips in which will start to get annoying and add another reason to quit the fs grind.
