Has anyone been denied a crafting FS quest? Do you need to accept the quest on the morning of the phase cahnge before the masses get to it?

Yes, this is a known issue. It's capped at something like 60 crafters. ALL crafting phases that have rewards given out by competition are. Search for old threads, around December of last year. Or look for SSnuggles posts.
