Do you have to do the quest for the specific branch in order to obtain the free unlock for that branch?

I got a free unlock and I didn't hologrind! Ironically, I mastered 4 professions and got one free unlock (which means that three out of the four professions I mastered were required to unlock Jedi.)

I know, note the time I registered.

I holo-grinded probably 15+ professions back in the day, and when they switched the whole Jedi thing, it seemed like I got screwed over. Did I really get screwed over? or do I have to do the quests first?

No, you talk to Paemos and ask him if you're ready to learn anything (or something like that- I can't remember.) Then he says how many free unlocks you have, and lets you choose which branches you want.
