Thread: When do I get a light saber?

Sorry for the newbie kinds of question, but just got back into the game after a year off and things seemed to have changed. I made it to the village a few days ago and am a little confused about what to do. I talked with a few NPCs there and even completed a quest for "Whip" where he helped me do something about vehicle control. Don't know if that is good or not... just jumped the gun because I was so excited about finally making it to the village.

Well, I have done some reading on the forums but there is just so much information there and it is very confusing to read. Most answers are written in a manner as to make it hard for me to understand. Maybe I am not the smartest sandwich in the basket.

Got a few question that maybe someone can help me with. More questions may follow:

1. Who are the NPCs I need to be talking with at the Jedi Villiage?

2. Are there trainers there? and if so what do they teach me?

3. How do I unlock any of the skills? and once unlocked how do I train for them?

4. With all of the reading I understand that there are 6 slots to open. Does this mean that there are only 6 or there are actually more and you have a choice of which ones to open?

5. Presently I am using polearms (long vibro axe I believe). When do I get the chance to use a lightsaber? I know I have to craft one but when do I get to craft it?

6. Do I first need to unlock 6 skill trees in order to start on my jedi path and use a saber?

Ansers to these questions would be most helpful to me as well as others I imagine.

Thanks to anyone knowledgeable who will take the time to answer these questions.

Go to the READ ME FIRST thread. From there I suggest "Non-FS to Jedi Padawan" thread. All your questions will be answered.

Some thoughts to help you out:

Read the Jedi Revamp FAQ. Better yet, read it several times. I've read all of the FAQs and that one, IMO, is by far the best.

DO NOT unlock any more branches right now until you've read the guide. As I understand it, you can only get six. I picked the vehicle control branch just because it seemed useful, but the other five I picked were melee speed, melee defense, ranged defense, survival, and melee accuracy. I originally was thinking of the crafting and experimentation branches, since I've played a master weaponsmith/architect before, but a couple friends of mine who've made Jedi and stuck with the game since day 1 advised against it. In any event, you should probably review the branches VERY closely and make an informed decision before picking things just for the heck of it.

As for your questions, read the guide - it's stickied at the top. Once you've read it a couple times, come back and ask your questions.

Build a man a fire and he's warm for a night. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

And don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Because then you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

Besides melee defense, ranged defense, survival, and melee accuracy, the other skills are pretty much worthless to a Jedi. The FS tree is all about denying Jedi 24 skill points that would allow then to finish off their templates with a few "extras." Most Jedi templates are Double Masters with two 4thtier boxes in another Jedi discipline. Having 24 more points would allow Jedi to dabble in the other Jedi lines and be much more powerful, because every Jedi box increases your Force Power bar and the rate you regen it. Novice Jedi skill boxes give you a big boost, so those 24 points are a way to keep people from being a novice everything and staying that way.

All jedi start by being novice everything because of the big boost in force for such little xp cost. They FS skill point usagerequires the jedi to drop some of the novice boxesat some point in their transition to a full jedi template.

The Jedi Revamp guide is by far the single most important post on this forum, i've read through the whole thing once, and I come back everytime a new phase hits to find out what's involved. All I can say is that before undertaking the whole FS grind, plan ahead on what your going to want and go from there.
