Firstly I know many of you won't care too much to even hear from someone who no longer plays the game. But I will say that i did use to greatly enjoy the game and have many great memories too. I gave up playing last June.
Anyway, purely out ofmorbid curiousity i thought i'd check out the ol' swg forums and see what people are talking about these days and whether the game has moved on at all. The first place I thought to look was here as i gave up just before the whole FS thing took off after hologrinding was taken out of the game.
Everyone is talking about grinding with grenades! It's a pretty sad thing to see when there are posts with people stating that if you want to become a jedi then you have to give up a whole month of your life. How times change... and yet don't change at all.
Grinding for jedi is one of the few things that lets this game down alot (grinding in general ruins the whole thing). From what i can gather swg is suppose to be changing again in the next month or so yeh? so you have 100 missions with 1 each week or something? anyway i genuinely prefer this idea. Personally i think it would make the game more fun. A couple of things i think would be good for the swg devs to include however would be a randomization of missions, so that not everyone is doing the same mission all at the same time, maybe actually have 300 missions and so no single player experiences the same path to becoming the jedi... generally mix it up a bit and make it fun and something to actually talk to your mates online about. It would also be good as well if people who were forced into spending 100 weeks getting to Jedi were given something to set them apart from jedi's who ground their wayto get it -maybe a different looking tef or a special crystal for an uber lightsaber or something.
Anyway I don't much know the facts about how the thing will actually work. But if i was to play the game again then I would actually prefer the missions to the grinding and take pride and enjoyment out of the game even if it did take a very long time to get jedi... at least the journey to getting it would feel more substantial and rewarding.
I do recognise however that SWG do have a habit of fecking things up in terms of updates, so no doubt they'll do the same with this one. It's just such a shame that they cannot realise the potential of a star wars mmo and actually make it FUN. Becoming a Jedi should be an experience afterall... not something that you would rather forget (i.e. grinding).
p.s I know why people want to grind... i did it for a very long time and unlocked countless proffessions trying to unlock my holo's... all I'm trying to say is that grinding ruined the game for me and drove me to quitting. If I could turn back the clock I would rather play the game how i started out. Teaming up with m8's and generally having a laugh... the first couple of months for my friends and I (we all started swg at the same time) grinding was never even an issue, and it is of this time that I have the fondest memories of the game. So if you are wanting to flame this post because you like the idea of grinding and feel it is essential to advancingthen it is not that I am against it in general it is more that having seen it from the point of view of an ex-player i can tell you that it is a shame that everyone was always so preoccupied with it instead of having a laugh.

Under the current system, you don't have to grind to get Jedi. You play the game, have fun and once you do cap your xp, then go trade it in at the village. When I'm out hunting hide or meat, I can max weapon and scouting xp, go trade it in without having to rebuff. It's now possible for both the power gamers to grind it out fast or for the casual gamer to just play and have fun to reach padawan.
Now once there, getting Jedi xp is a whole different story from what I have read.

I have been on the test center checking out the new system, which I think goes live in a month. The combat process will be a lot more like EQ2. It was frustrating getting started, but once I got a few levels up it got to be a lot more fun. The biggest change I saw is that you really need to be in a group to level up against the harder mobs. That's one of the major points to the CURB (Combat Upgrade, Re-Balance); to 'encourage' group gameplay. The new system will be a real culture shock to a lot of people who became uber solo-players. Heck, even solo groups got nerfed, so you don't even see those much anymore.
My biggest concern at this point is how well I will be able to play my Jedi. Since solo-ing is being discouraged, Jedi will likely need to group to level up. I hope they revise the visibility system, because it will put us at a huge disadvantage.
Over all, SWG is going to be an entirely new game when the new system hits (especially to someone who hasn't played in so long). I, for one, like a little shake-up now and again to keep it interesting. Whether or not this will be a good or bad shake-up remains to be seen. But I look forward to finding out

FYI Jedi visibility is not changing with the CURB.
One of the main goals of the CURB is to encourage group play. Yet the Jedi visibility rules discourage it. The devs are schitzo.

Hopefully the dev's will reconsider vis. The only ones this hurts are the padawans. Once you reach knight status, jedi xp is marginalized in favor of FRS xp. Unless the solo-ability of padawans increases, this will be a major bummer. I may just have be on perma-vis to get any more skill boxes filled. At least that might be more exciting than mindlessly killing rancors day in and day out. Oh wait, after the curb that will mean mindlessly killing pharples day in and day out, lol.

What really bums me out about the CURB is that you're going to need to experiment to see what works and what doesn't Padwans have no room for error. If they screw up they're digging themselves out of a negative xp hole. This is going to suck big time.

You are correct, why would you even post, why would you even bother. As someone who gave up, or just doesn't like the game, why would you think you opinion would have any worth what so ever. I think I understand why only 30 some odd percent of the player base even bother to use the forms....every one here is ANTI-EVERYTHING.....why do i bother you may ask. Well I am at work and really have nothing bettter to do than check the forums frome time to time.
