Thread: Second slot Idea... Good or Bad? Feedback appreciated

Hi everyone,

Not a jedi and this is why I wanted to know if this is a good idea or a bad one.

I have learnt that your main character has to keep 'Padawan' status in order to open a second character slot. However, personally (and I know others feel the same), if I wanted to pursue becoming a jedi I would want to use my second character not my main as I like the reputation and template of my main. But I find it too costly in skill points (24 I believe) in order to keep my main as a Padawan.

I believe this was done in order to prevent people from grinding thru the trials in order to get a second slot and then having two non-Jedi characters by dropping the main's FS skills, which makes sense.

So my idea/proposal is, once the second slot character achieves Padawan status, should that allow the main to drop Padawan and regain non-FS skills? This in essence creates the same scenario - whereby one character has to have Padawan skills and the other may or may not. There is still the sacrifice of the main losing some skill points for 'x' amount of time while the main completes the trials and then the second character has to as well.

Does this make sense or do you see reasons why this wouldn't work? Would like some feedback on this idea.

Regards, Jaxson

The basis for the second slot is to allow the Jedi to play an alt when his Vis is high, continue to explore other aspects of the game, and grove what the Jedi cannot. Originally, the second slot was also for deeds. Storage ect, as the Jedi could not own structures.

As to the Jedi being the toon who unlocks the slot, I pushed the current system, and here is why: Your original toon is the one who was motivated to seek out the forbidden path to Jedi, and he/she did the work to get there. This Avatar as a history, a background, an identity on the server, they transformed into the Jedi. Call it role-play, story arc, or progression, but it makes sense. I was a seeker of the Jedi way from day one, and trail blazed the unknown path in three separate Jedi systems, now that I have unlocked with the character who has devoted his game life to becoming Jedi, in every sense of the word, transforming himself, how would it make sense that an alt is the Jedi?

What logic supports the new alt being the Jedi? Most who are asking for a reversal choose a silly name, or a race/gender combo they are unhappy whit, and although that is unfortunate, it is a choice they made. I distinctly being told that non-Star Wars names are not permitted, and were not to be chosen. I clearly recall Sony saying that our toons must be in keeping with the Star Wars theme, and to accede to those who disregarded the rules would be wrong.

BTW, the 2nd slot is intended to be used when the main is a Jedi, not as a second cha in general, and I agree that surrender of the Jedi should remove the slot, as it not longer serves the intended purpose.

Hey Kovev,

Your comments make a lot of sense. It's funny, my suggestion was based upon the same rationale as yours. My character in game does not truly believe in the force and by pursuing the way of the force with him, I felt he would be going against his nature and against roleplaying aspects. Which is where my suggestion came from. Because I personally would like to try the jedi path but I feel I need to create new identity and background for a character to do so. (To which the simple answer is buy a second account right...)but I would like to explore the option that I described in my first post.

If I were to unlock a second character, that would be the one I would then mold to becoming a jedi. I would do all the trials with them and roleplay it properly as such. And if that's the case, and by obeying the same principles as your main, the second character achieves jedidom. Why then should my main character be forced to have retain their force abilities (Jedi Padawan status).

I also see your point of view about the main being motivated to seek out the force and therefore should be given the opportunity to become the Jedi. Which is why my original question isn't one of changing the current system but allowing me to choose which character would follow the path to becoming a Jedi. The path to becoming a Jedi is obviously not so easy and it takes time, during which my main would need to retain their Jedi Padawan status thus preventing any exploits.

I like the current system but wondered if this option was feasible.

Thanks and look forward to more input, Jaxson

i dont know if i like the second slot.

i mean ill use it and it will make things easier. but ill end up useing it as a chef/be or possibly some other support char. thus takeing the job of a real support player.

so its not really fair to those who choose to be whatever i end up makeing my alt.

im not about to petition for its removal. i just wouldnt be upset if they did remove it.

hate the nge... but i lurk. one day maybe things will be fun again. until then soe/la dont get none of my moneys.

Interesting point Jackson. The ideal solution would be to allow the player to choose, but I'm not sure that's logistically possible. I have no objection to there being a choice, my issue was with not being allowed to use the toon who did the quest.

I support Jackson's suggestion.

And Kovev, keep in mind that not everyone got into this game to "become a Jedi", and their Main character may not have originally taken a path to become Jedi (e.g. me). But as time passes and one learns new things, plans change. Unlike the past, I would now like toexplore life as a Jedi.Butlike Jackson, I have a main with a template I enjoy and would like to keep. I would rather work a second, new character from the start to become Jedi. That's why I think his idea has merit.

A little background: I had never played an MMORPG before and knew next to nothing about them. A friend who was a fellow Star Wars fan told me about the game, and it sounded like a lot of fun. I signed up and have been hooked ever since.I have played since the second day, and even when the holocron mania erupted, I chose not to follow that path. I fell in love with Rifleman andstill amone today.

So why am I pursuing the Jedi grind now (I am two boxes away)? Because I had experienced most aspects of the game, and I was finding a certain boredom creeping in.I was also smuggler for a long time and enjoyed it a lot also, but the promised revamp never materialized so I started looking elsewhere for new adventure.

By the way, that was not a criticism of anything you said, I just wanted to offer an alternative point of view.
