Thread: A complaint about the FS trees from a Master Ranger

I don't like to complain about this game. I get so much from it and whileI understand a lot of the gripes and moans that people make, I do my best to always remember that the devs are doing their best for us and have, like us, the best interests of the game at heart.

But I have to have a bit of a moan about the way the FS trees have been instituted in relation to the Scout and Ranger professions.

I am a Master Ranger, 3,3,3,3 Riflewoman who is working her way up to Master there too. I don't want to become a jedi. I love being a Ranger but am glowy and decided I would use my new-found FS to improve my skills as a ranger and get that bit better than Master Ranger allows me to on its own.

I should also say I'm not a grinder. I play the game as it is. Took me six months to get Master Ranger and I'll get my combat xp for Rifle as and when it comes, while i'm out hunting and doing my job.

I went to the village for the first time two phases ago and unlocked vehicular control.. a useful extra for the Ranger. I intend next phase to get Survival - again, useful stuff for the Ranger. From a riflewoman point of view, I have also spent the last two phases doing ranged defence and now melee defence in the current phase.

So what's my beef? My beef is the fact that any Scouting XP I earn - scouting, trapping, wilderness survival will count not one jot towards my FS trees in the same area.

As I say, I'm not a grinder so I finally had enough FS XP today to go to Noldan and train as a novice (notice twophases after I started this area of the game).I had been faithfully converting all my scouting XP into FS XP and finally had my 50k so took a trip across the village street to Noldan to get trained up.

What do I find? My scouting, trapping and wilderness XP has earnt me the right to have FS abilities in crafting, luck, persuasion and healing !?!?!?!? Fantastic, thanks very much - that will really enhance me as a Ranger.

To get bonuses to my vehicular control, to my camping, foraging, trapping, mask scent, terrain negotiation etc etc etc I have to convert Combat XP since it's in the enhanced reflexes tree.

Yes, okay - I can understand why ranged defence and melee defence need combat xp (the other parts of the Enhanced Reflexes tree) but it's ludicrous that all the scouting XP that I build up as a Master Ranger will not help me at all in getting FS skills in the same area of survival.

I know most of you are combat experts who don't care and find combat XP easy to come by. I'm not - what combat XP I get, I need for the Riflewoman skills at the moment (although I appreciate that will change eventually when I Master). Nevertheless, I'm no tank who prefers to hunt unbuffed, unarmoured and to use my smarts, my traps as well as my rifle in bringing a critter down. Combat XP isn't easy for me to get.

Please development team. Please FS correspondent. Please Ranger correspondent. Please take this issue up because it's a travesty for all Rangers and Scouts like myself who want to enjoy some FS abilities and cannot because of the way the system has been set up against us.

Thank you.

The FS skills area nightmare, the only way you can fill them and keep up with the phase changes is to be a melee profession and grind like crazy (or spend millions and millions on grenades), its stupid. Even though theres a min of 18+ weeks before you can get to initiate, they still force people to spend their time grinding, taking away yet more interaction between players.

Combat XP is way easier to gain the sense XP. If you master rifle you can fil up the reflex branches fairly quick. If you fill up a master profession you get 30K xp and if you wait to fill up the combat XP to 300,000 then when you trade in you've got 190,000 FS XP. That's a better conversion rate than anything in senses since you can possibly fill up 900,000 Rifle XP in one buff session.

I'm grinding out Luck with half of Merchant and it takes forever.

Go back, Evilhomersimpson, read the post again... inwardly digest.

I'm not a Master Rifle. I don't grind. I play the game and enjoy it for what it is... once I Master Rifle I will use the xp to turn into FS xp - fine.

Point is that it's ludicrous that my scouting XP doesn't then go into the tree that contains scouting skills (Survival in the Enhanced Reflexes tree).

Nothing there for Creature Handlers, either. I'd think Persuasion would give a decent bonus for pet taming or something. Alas; nada.

The obvious addition for rangers (since we're talking about heightened senses) would be enhanced tracking and tissue harvesting, along with enhancements to the bonuses Scouts and Rangers get when attacking creatures. These skills couldbe added to a the Surveying branch, with it renamed"HuntingAnd Surveying."

Vehicular control? What ranger uses vehicles while hunting. We run up hills much faster than any vehicle. While I tend to agree to a certain extent we do get the shaft on some things, I don't feel the force sensitive quests are supposed to make us that much better. I see them as a way to helpeveryone a bit while working through Jedi. Just my two creds. Another thing the conversion rate for Scouting xp isn't as bad as it is for fighting based xp, i.e. unarmed, rifles, etc... and every ranger knows it's sooo easy to max out scouting xp. The only problem I see is that the path to jedi and the force sensitive stuff is not meantfor non-grinders, well at least if you don't mind taking a long time to fill up the boxes....I think it's called enjoying the game. Point is.... scouts/rangers aren't meant to have special enhancements that making them more powerful. Cheers.

You obviously spend less time running away from creatures than I do

It sucks all around. Rangers weren't the only one to get screwed. They made it this way on purpose. Get over it.

I agree, the way things as laid out in the first post make no sense (I don't have personal experience, because I'm not glowy).

Then again, it just shows the typical level of thoughtlessness and discontinuity that is displayed by those who make this game. There are so many things that could and should make sense that don't, this is one of them. It is also one of the many issues that could and shouldhave been avoided if they'd thought it through properly before they started coding it.

Sorry but you are talking complete Bantha poodoo here mate. Who ever said the FS stuff was ONLY for those grinding to Jedi? Jedi hardly benefit from any of the FS skills at all! Being Force Sensitive is not the same as being a Jedi. To add to Bethya's points - a Ranger can not even unlock any of the trees that use Senses XP, That is just ridiculous. Whats the point in being able to convert XP if you can't then use it? Yes, yes I can convert Rifle + Combat XP much quicker. But I AM NOT IN A RUSH TO GRIND JEDI. I couldn't care less how long it takes (to get XP), I just want to be able to be rewarded for using my Ranger skills, is that really too much to ask for?

Please note although I am biased towards Rangers butI KNOW this also affects other profs. too (entertainers/ch/smuggler etc). Are we really all in a minority to those just grinding to Jedi?
