I just jumped in on the melee speed quest yesterday 1/11/04... when is the next shift coming and is it possible to finish this quest before it hits?

Well if you started 1/11/04 you should make it with no problem, infact you should be done already 
But, if you started on 1/11/05 I doubt you'll make it since it looks as if the village is going to shift Thursday (11/13/05) morning

I don't think it's possible to finish. You've got 3 sets of missions, if I remember correctly, and they have a 24 hour wait period between them.
