This would be true if you didn't get any combat xp with that weapons xp. But since you get as much FS xp from the incidental combat xp that comes with your weapons xp, you have to divideyour number by 2. Still a very big number, but certainly not the picture of doom and gloom that you paint.

Good point UTech. I forgot about that when I did my calculations. Ten percent of your 30:1 exp will be Combat experience which can be turned in at the higher 3:1 ratio. I'm not sure where you come up with the reason to divide by two though. Without doing any fancy math I'd say that my estimates are within 10% of an accurate figure. The idea though is that the Jedi grind is not only ridiculously boring, but it's not practically reachable by the casual gamer.

It would be possible to walk from Florida to Alaska, but it's not practically doable by someone who just wants to take a few steps a day.

Your right bottom line peopledont have to become a jedi...does every other proffession in the game have a super immersive path to becoming a novice? No.People expect too much, and will always be dissappointed, I'm just greatful I don't have to grind out proffessions im totally not interested in to become a jedi. You check out any other prof board, and no one is complaining about the method of achieving novice in that proffession. Jedi isn't the only interesting aspect of Star Wars...and it has allready been given way too much attention. Especially since it is the smallest percentage of client base, but probably the most dedicated and loyal.

And on the note of jedi being accessable to the casual gamer, your totally off IMO. Jedi to most is an Alpha class. It has distinguished abilities and high DPS. Both Qualites of it being uber. For anything that is uber should come hard work. And as it stands now the casual gamer can attain jedi within the given time frame of the 18 week period to unlock the 6 branches. But the problem lies in the actual leveling of the jedi character once Padawan. A casual gamer would prolly take easily a half year to completea template....not very casual to me.

The villlage is fine, the grind is fine, although realize this u guys....the grind is hard and takes time! what? did i just say that? yes i did, and even if u capped 24 times a week, thats not that bad taking 5 months...due to how it takes 6 months just waiting for the phases to change in the first place! do us all a fav. go get commando 4000, buy some thermo nades, power um up, and slay baz niches like none other! i did this for a good 2 weeks, and got all the xp for 5 branches i need. Now for my last branch i have to do senses, so im doing the rezing way. i started today and have 2 force boxes of fxp stacked up. If you dont want to put in the time to finish it, dont waist our time byputtin up poststhrashing what some players only play the game to accomplish

I'm just addressing the math here. The divide by two is because of the way you get combat xp and because of the rate you trade it in at.

You get 1 combat xp for every 10 weapon xp you get.

900k weapon xp = 30k fs xp
90k combat xp = 30k fs xp
900k weapon xp + 90k combat xp = 60k fs xp per capping

6 lines = 7,350,000 fs xp, +100k fs xp for unlocking novices
7,450,000 fs xp/60k fs xp per capping = capping 124 times (and change) to unlock

If you cap, say, twice a week, that's 62 weeks to unlock - a year plus three and a half months. If you're dual master and still cap twice a week, that's 32 weeks to unlock - eight months, a minimum of four of which you'll be waiting for the village to cycle. Someone half-assed power grinding without grenades - dual master, five times a week - can finish the xp in about three and a half months, leaving your minimum village time exceeding your grind time. The hard core sorts - the ones who can doublecap once per buff session and do it daily, plus more on the weekend - call it 10 times per week - finish in about six weeks.

It's definitely not impossible for someone to casually go through and finish it, though obviously the more time and effort you put into it, the faster it goes. It's also obvious that it has little value in controlling the number of jedi - aside from the "everyone can make it through eventually" factor, anyone who puts significant effort *without* grenades can finish in about the same time as the village cycle. Grenadiers blow through it so fast it's almost funny.

I agree that becoming a Jedi shouldn't be easy. It should be the hardest thing in the game. But why the heck shouldn't it be great fun?? Bottom line - This is a game and games are played for fun. They don't have to be easy, but to remain popular they need to be fun. What has been done here is all the fun was drained out of the process. All that is left is a nearly endless grind. Granted, there are relatively fast ways to grind out out Force Sensitive experience (until they get nerfed), but they are still tedious and long, not even challenging. In order to get through the FS grind, 221 million experience points are required at the 30:1 ratio. If a casual player who did only this for 2 nights a week, capping out twice each night and turning in the experience, it would take nearly two and a half years just to get past the FS grind. A power gamer who was able to cap out twenty-four times a week would still need five months. Using grenades can definitely cut these times drastically, but the grind is still long and tedious with zero content. Then you have the endless Jedi grind following that. Is this really a good solution? How can this be fun? This is more of a test in patience than any kind of player skill. I left Everquest because of this kind of play issue. Fortunately for SWG it isn't necessary for all players to become Jedi and that is probably why SWG remains popular.

What I would really like to see is a long and very involved, dynamic quest based system. This would be based on individual variables based on the characters race and faction alignment and personal choices made during the journey. There would be no bad choices and failures would result in a player having to take the long way around to get to a solution. There are ways to code this and repeat the same quests with enough variation to maintain interest. I should be VERY difficult, but still remain fun and have a challenging feel. It should require much travel, much combat - mostly faction based because Jedis are very factional by definition, as well as a scattering of of delivery missions, etc. During this journey/story a character would have opportunities to gain points in various skills by completing subsections of the story. A system like this could be easily built to accomodate varying play styles while still maintaining a bottle neck whereby the ultimate number of players becoming Jedi would equal the number leaving the game. In other words, the population of Jedi could be made to remain relatively stable in the galaxy.

But of course, as we've been told, there are no further major updates planned to the Jedi profession because they are "finished."

I agree that it should be more fun but its not gonna happen. Not to mention that grinding FS xp is so freakin easy compared to grinding Jedi xp. The casual gamer will die if they do ever reach Jedi cause it would take them years and years to level up his/her Jedi to the point that he/she is a viable character. It was designed this way to limit the numbers of Jedi, least thats my opinion.

As for dynamic quests...al la EQ. Screw that. Everquest was and is the biggest time sink game ever designed. SWG did one thing right and it was the omission of the "Have to group" mentality. I played Eq for almost 4 yrs and it sickens me still to think of all the time wasted just waiting to get a "raid" going. At least here you can solo/group/pvp basically whenever you want without the need for 50+ people to assist you. That is wonderful in my book. EQ/EQ2 can die =p

Im inclined to disagree with you. SoE does have the right idea with the "nearly endless FS Grind" Its intent is to swerve people away from pursuing jedi. Or delay them as long as possible from becoming jedi. They saw the necessity of this system with the failings of the Holo-Grind days, people would be able to use holocrons and they would tell them a profession to master. The game had no content, no interaction.. Just a ton of fools AFK all the time grinding out dancer, musician, all kinds of pathetic professions.
Weapons were pathetic, as there were few serious weaponsmiths, they only were them because a holocron told them to be. They grinded out as many as 26-32 professions just to unlock their Jedi Character.

Since Publish 10 the game has only improved in this regard, yes people are still on their endless pursuit for jedi. But they are able to do it with the template they currently are, not constantly change it. Items have improved in quality, buffs have improved in quality.

The only problem now is that there are so many Jedi, that PvP is decided on how many jedi one side has. This if anything is what needs to change.

I dont give a rats arse if you arent having fun with your FS Grind, neither am I, neither is Anyone else doing it. If it was fun, then everyone would be doing it, and noone would be such professions that are necessary. Doctors, Weaponsmiths, Armorsmiths, Bio Engineers. Artisans make the game, because they make the items we use. If they were able to get a jedi and have fun doing it, wouldnt they drop what they are doing and pursue it like everyone else?

Nope, the Publish 10 Jedi System is right now Ideal, until they figure out a harder way to gain jedi. Its not fun because it shouldnt be fun.

So, Cry more noob..

A purely quest-based path to Jedi would be marvellous, I agree. Unfortunately that much newcontent (and there wouldhave to be an awful lot of it to equal the FS grind)would likely require 12-18 months of planning, design, artwork, modelling, coding, and testing, and be akin to an entire expansion pack as far as effort by the developers. They already take advantage of much of the existing static content by requiring POI badges and content badges to get glowy. Creating a new Warren or DWB is like making a whole new mini-game, and requires a lot of time and effort by the dev teams.

I have had fun. I wouldn't be playing if I wasn't, you just have to kinda slow down and enjoy the ride sometimes.

Like many have pointed out...a Master combat template can do all the grinding neccessary in between phases, without going to crazy.

It is a grind to be sure, but that is part of the "price" required to become a Jedi. If it starts to bother you...do something else for a while...the village is here to stay so you can always go back and pick up where you left off.

Excuse me, but I'm not sure what I did to deserve that rudeness.

I simple posted what I thought would be a more fun route to take than the endless grinding. I have a gripe with the current system and I posted a possible solution to it, unlike most of the posters here who simply complain and whine without a solution. Like you have nearly done, I have completed the FS grind and I used grenades to do it. It took me 9 days to fill all six branches. I can powergame with the best of them, and I proved my worth against countless Baz Nitches, but it occurred to me that someone with less available free time would have an enormously boring task ahead of them, so I did some math which confirmed that. There were some glitches in my math but the point I made remains firm, i.e. it is a very lengthy and boring task to complete the FS grind if you are a casual player. I can see your confusion though in regards to my posting. To make my point more clear; I do not have a problem with the length of time that the grind takes. That is something that needs to be in place to act as a bottleneck to prevent a surge of Jedi class players from taking over the game and decreasing the enjoyment of others. What my posting was about was the tediousness and ridiculous GRINDING that has to take place for one to be successful. This Grinding does not have to exist! There are other ways to accomplish the same goals! There is no reason that the game has to be un-fun for someone to become a Jedi, or even advance in the Jedi profession. I presented a possible solution to this issue, which you apparently didn't read.

I'm sorry you missed my point. I hope it's more clear now. I'm sorry you feel it's a waste of your time and I am NOT "thrashing what some players only play the game to accomplish." I really can't see why you were offended by a possible solution to this. Unless of course you really enjoy doing nothing in the gamebuttossing thousands of grenades over a period of approximately 72 hours. If you really like doing this then I can suggest some other activities you might enjoy equally as well, such as filling the Grand Canyon with building blocks one at a time, or building a half scale model of the White House using toothpicks.

Saxiff, I have to say that I agree with 100% of your posting. As far as the casual gamer never reaching Jedi - yep, absolutely. The casual gamer probably NEVER will reach Jedi and I agree with that completely. The point I was trying to make, which most people here seem to have missed, is that while the journey to Jedi should be very long and hard, it should also be a lot of fun. As things stand now it is not hard, it is not fun, but it is very long. I am still doing it however because for some reason I'm convinced that the destination will justify the journey.

And about the EQ thing - I agree completely, the EQ groupingphilosophy is what killed it for me after two years of that hassle. Looking back I really can't believe I was suckered into that garbage for so long. Not being able to change professions? What was I thinking?

Thanks for the corrections in my math mcorey. I always hated math. And you are right about the grenades. I finished the grind in 9 days from start to finish.
