This may seem like a negative post or one that is meant to be discouraging, but it isn't. I have been keeping a few posts in this forum every now and then because I wanted to record my progression up through the Jedi profession. And to tell you honestly a feel more of a connection with those that are trying to be, rather than those that have become.
These are my thoughts after about a month of being a Jedi.
At first I was elated, and felt I deserved to be. I had accomplished something that was a worthwhile goal and even though it is a game, it still felt good. Better than any feeling I had gotten from any other game.
One thing that I still have not fully grasped (at least in terms of actual time) is how much MORE xp you have to acquire to leave behind your Padewan Robe. It is mind-boggling to be honest. It takes 2.6 million Saber xp to get 4 filled boxes in any of the Jedi lines. These xp points have to be acquired 300-600 points at a time (on average) and have to be gained in total secrecy, counting npc's.
The reason for the secrecy is simple, if you get on the bounty hunter terminals YOU ARE DEAD. Padewans are not equipped to deal with Bounty Hunters. For the casual gamer, even the moderate gamer, this daunting task of getting the neccessary xp to get that first branch is probably going to be the longest grind you have ever done in the game. After the first Branch things are supposed to get easier, but I have a ways to go.
The other thing is the lonliness and lack of contact you have to face. I have always enjoyed the time I spent doing things with other guildies. You still can to some degree, but it is all social activities. You just can't afford to Die (at least until Knight) because the xp loss represents lost time. Time you have to spend doing more grinding, in other words.
So my guild activities have been reduced to chatting in guild chat, which certainly helps, but is really just a shadow of the things we use to do togethor.
The other thing I've noticed, and I really didn't before, is the total hostility towards Jedi in the SWG world. People really don't seem to like us and assume that ALL of the Jedi exploited, AFK or Power grinded, e-bayed or whatever our way into the profession. In most people's eyes , we didn't do anything to deserve the Profession. And it was given to us on a silver platter to begin with.
Now all of this sounds like a typical whine. But the truth is I Love all of it so far (except the lonliness part) I enjoy the Danger, the need to live through every encounter and the need for secrecy. And I enjoy all the challenges fledgling Jedi must face. It has brought Depth I never would have believed possible from a game.
I know that when I do reach Knight-Hood, it will be because I worked at it. It will be a reward for time spent and thus all the richer for it. But that is a long way off.

First of all great post! I enjoyed it. Everything you said was true and very accurate. The only thing to look forward to is at the end of the grind you can re-introduce yourself to your guildies and actually begin hunting again with them. That's actually what helps me put in that extra buff session per day, usually I just wanna do 1 and log off but because of that thought I am able to stay and do one more. Also I believe it is 3 million for every jedi line. Then 3.2 million for master. so basically to attain Master LS you'd need 15.2 million xp. Didn't mean to take any credit away from your post or anything but just wanted to make it even better

A little while ago, I sat down and punched some numbers into a spreadsheet...
Here's a scenario:
- person plays 5 days per week
- during that week, they average 500K of Jedi XP per day (that being, 2.5 million Jedi XP per week)
- using the numbers above, it will take approximately 3.6 months to finish their Jedi template (all skill points assigned to Jedi skills)
... just thought I'd throw those numbers out there for you all.
(edit to correct typo's)

Thank you strykorr for the kind words and correction in my miscalculation.
I just wanted to Add that I believe the difficult path Padewans have to walk is neccessary and appropriate. It is daunting, but not impossible. And it does get easier.
What it does do is at least grant an approximation to "worthiness". By that I mean it separates (for the most part) people that really want to be a Jedi, and those that just thought they did.

Ironically this is how I play now...every now and then I go off and do some stuff with some of my rl friends in the game but most of the time I'm a loner. Damn, I can't wait.

Darn...didn't know it was so hard
I'll be hitting Jedi in 6 weeks (only need phase 3: Melee Acc) and i can't wait to start those trails
But 1 thing is sure: I'm going to be a knight some day and I don't care how long i need to grind.
And if people think I'm a ebayer...let them think, my ingame friends and guildies know how hard i've worked for it.

I was saving the pilot grind as time to hang out and fight with my guild mates. Alot of them fly, and that would be time where I can build my pilot skills (really like the idea of getting a jedi starfighter too) and have time to hang out with friends.
I dont mind being off by myself though, either. Sometimes, I go off by myself and just chat in guildchat. That way I can make full xp, and full rate on my destroy missions. I will have lots more time that I am alone, but that is the breaks. I will grind it quickly and efficiently as I can, so I can once again be a part of guild activities.
Honestly.... I cant wait to become a Knight. I want to do one of those Covette assassination missions when I get Knight. Sweet revenge from what those Nova Troopers did to me last time.
