Hello all, I'm not sure which board to have post this so forgive me if it should have gone elsewhere. I've just returned to SWG after a 6 month layoff. I like some changed and others I don't however, I've been reading about changing the exp grind numbers again for the village grind. I've spoken to a few dozen peoplewho are currently grinding towards jedi and all are doing it for 2 reasons.

1) To play a jedi.

2) Open the second slot.

I believe that if you stopped the creation of a 2nd char. slotupon becoming a jedi, it would reduce the number of jedi grinders by at least a third of not half. The Devs should look into this. I am aware the few dozen that I've spoken with does not make a good working survey but lets say that the numbers are correct.

At this point you can't stop awarding the 2nd char slot altogether. You could reward the 2nd slot based on long term play not based onJedi grinding. So, you could add the second char. slot as a vet reward,at lets say, the two year level. This would reward your long term players. You would not have to change theexp grind where the casual gamer takes2 years toopen jedi.

I'm sure there are ways to play with this ideato make it work withinSWG. Devswill always have thechallenge of balancing the game for the casual gamer and power gamer. A successful, long term MMORPG is the one that is able tomake the game challenging and rewardingfor both types of gamers.

I posted this in the Community Relations fourm in the hopes reaching someone. I wish no credit/reward for the idea. I hope that satisfies the lawyers. All kidding aside, remove the 2nd char. as a reward for grinding jediand I believe you remove the biggest drive towards Jedi.

I'm going to assume you have your second char slot from grinding Jedi? If I'm wrong let me know. From what I can tell getting the title Jedi Padawan is a curse more than a blessing starting out. Easy to kill when found by a BH and it is a long grind to become a Jedi. The second char slot is there so that a player who has earned the Jedi profession has a different way to enjoy the game. If you are hiding from a BH, need to make some more money safely,or are just plain tired of the grind you can go play the second char slot. This keeps people playing the game and keeps their intrest up if they burn out grinding the tons of XP needed for Jedi. That's my take on why the second slot is given to Jedi and not as a reward for a veteran.

I do not currently have my 2nd slot with this Account but have worked through jedi on another account. I don't think they are awarding 2nd slots cause jedi life is boring and difficult early on. They made the system what it is. I think you hit it on the head when you said the grinding all the time is boring that is why casual gamers cant do it.

My only point in bringing it up was that it seems the Devs are looking for a way to slow down the jedi process. (which I agree with) If that's the case, don't hurt the casual gamer by making it harder for them toobtain the 2nd slot by changing the combat exps.Change grenade damage type to something else. Or you can fix it by changing the whole system. CU has proved the devs are willing to make wholesale changes to the game for thehealth of the game. When I stopped playing 6 month ago, everyone was a def stacker or melee profession. Very rare did you find ranged profession chars outside of pistoleers grinding away. Since the CU, I've noticed a ton of people running around as Carbiners. Rifleman, BH's all over the place, Squad leaders. I think the CU have been a good thing overall.

By Awarding a 2nd slot based on age of the account (insert number of months here) makes the most sense as both power gamers and casual games alike will, in time, gain the 2nd char through something much more important to SOE and the community than killing a million creatures and that's long term commitment to the game. Should you choose to work towards jedi as your only form of gaming then be prepared for nothing else. But, after a few years of playing you get awarded a 2nd char slot and you want to try something different, lets say Jedi, then go for the grind. Just my 2 cents.

I hope the Devs or someone else reads these posts. It comes right from the players. The same players spending $15+ a month.

It is too late in the game to change things. Too many, including yourself, have gone through the current and older system. It would be unfair to those who want to be since the people before them did not have to complete such a rigorous course to get theirs. You can't change the profession itself, because people would cancel.

The issue is a no win situation that SOE has created for themselves, and no matter what decision they make, if any, people will leave the game. They should just play it out until it is no longer profitable, then kill the project.

I agree, the game is always adapting and changing. Look at Ultima Online, always changing adding, removing and they have been around for 8 years.

Ultima had a solid base . Not only that but it came out in 97 , eq its first real compition didn't come out till 99 . Thus it had 2 years to tweak itself before anyone else really got in on the market . Swg has been out for 2 years and has ahd alot of products going up against it from 8 year old games to brand new games like eq2 , wow , lineage 2 . This game just lacks to much. They need to put a quest team together and have them actually do something with it

HA, just posted this in another topic, SOE has no problem changing things mid-stream!, they do it all the time. +25 attachments, pre-cu components, combat xp conversion, just to name a few.

Ultima did have a head start and not as many other games to compete with. I still think that the addition of a second toon, upon becoming Jedi, adds to the number of people opening jedi. The only fair way to slow down the number of jedi is to make it time based. Meaning that your Character "grows" with the force as it ages in real world time. Like in 6 months you can start working in the village.

There have been a lot of great ideas in this and many other forums on revamping the jedi system. One problem still remains, too many jedi during this time frame within the game. If you can't change how many jedi currently and how many will open in the next year, then change how they are treated in game game. Once they pass a certain "level of visibility", they are hunted unmercifully by npc Mobs, pc characters, etc. Or, make it when a Jedi clones he has to wait 2 hours to play that toon again. All jedi have 2 toons, go play the other one.

One thing every forgets, it's not supposed to be a fun time to be a jedi during the reign of the Emperor and Vader. Don't Dumb down jedi and make them weak. A jedi should be the most powerful toon in the game. But with great power comes unwanted attention from the empire.

I did not mind when me and 3 friends got slapped around by a jedi knight while defending our base or city. He was a JK for crying out loud. What I did mind was when we did beat him, he would just clone and show up in 5 minutes. That sux. I guess my point is give the Jedi their power don't hurt them with penalties of losing exps. Make them have to sit out awhile and perhaps you'll create a more responsible jedi player.
