Say, how come going from no sense of the force to being able to at least noticing it is an eternety of soulsearching, while going from there to becoming a jedi initiate is a two-day course held at Hotel Riverton? Should it not be the other way around? Hear me out...

Many players go FS and head to the village NOT to pursue Jedi, but to get a few minor bonuses to what they are allready doing with their characters. Even more playesr are just in it for the extra character slot on the same server. None of these players are the slightest bit interested in Jedi, however, this is the truly time consuming part of it all. They have to do the exact same xp grind as those who watched the movies and said to themselves "Hey, these movies would be so much better if the story revolved around Luke, Vader and ME. How the heck could Lucas miss that?!", but they are after much less.

Once you've gotten through the village though, those who are after Jedi nowonly have to sit through a total of two days of boring quests. You know the ones, those that are supposed to be tricky ways of making players choose the right path. Things like:

Go to man. Man tells you his daughter owes him money. Choose to solve the quest by either eating the daughter and her three puppys, or by telling the man he should just let it go.

My suggestion would be along the lines of making the village a reasonably difficult 2-4 week period, so that those who are only after a few bonuses can do it at their leasure. Then make the padawan trials into the grind fest. Heck, make it into a 2 year period of immense suffering and boredom for all I care. If the devs are making all these time constraints and conversion rates to keep jedi numbers down (and they are, we all know that) then isn't the village the wrong part to focus on?

And for the sake of Odin, make the extra character slot NOT tied to the jedi path! You want jedi numbers down? Then why are you making sure that those who want another alt MUST become jedis in order to get it? I'm sure there are players who just wanted the alt that got seduced to "the dark side" once they got their slot AND jedi, as they suddenly realised that even though they didn't ask for it, they can now run to a starport dressed in their pyjamas, wave their glow sticks around and yell "OMG! LOL! I hrdly knw hw to spll!!"...

Honestly...

Not to flame but i disagree. On Ahazi i know that almost all of the players going through the villages quests are going for jedi, not too sure about the other servers though. I also know that the devs arnt trying to limit the number of jedi, with the combat upgrade getting the 6 FS trees is extremely faster. It went from being at least a year long ordeal to just taking 4 - 5 months. The neat rewards and things that go along with the village are extremely cool and should be very difficult to get. Think about it this way getting a cool village reward is 1/6 of getting jedi and thats if u decide to grind the xp for the tree also which is normally the longest part. I believe that the extra toon is extremely helpful for jedi and that jedi is the only place possible in the game to get it. For all of the jedis that are extremely strict about not gaining visibilty the extra toon gives them a chance to do things w/ other players. And it gives jedi the ability to make money with a crafting profession without having to give up their much needed Force skills. And I believe that jedi padawan can be dropped so you dont HAVE to be a jedi to get the extra toon but im not completely sure on that.

Well thats just my view on things hope it helps u understand some things better

Hardly a flame, just some valid points my friend. I'll counter some of them though...

1. I agree that the CU made it faster and easier to become Jedi. I don't think that was intentional though, but more like a side effect. The fact that they are now changing the convertion rates is a sure sign they DO intend to keep the jedi population down if you ask me...

2. I can see how the extra toon is usefull for jedis, but it is just as usefull for roleplayers and others. Sure, keep the toon as a reward for jedi, but they still need to add it as a separate quest too. If they made it so that you couldn't get both toon rewards, I know a lot of people who would be glad not to have to bother with the jedi quest and just do the other one instead. Jedi numbers would go down a wee bit and a lot of people would be happy...

3. I fear Ahazi might not be the best server for my theory. It's not exactly known for it's massive RP population (I know it exists, and I'm certain it's made up of very talanted RPers, but it's still not a massive RP server.) and that would certainly scew the numbers.

4. I still don't see why the long part of becoming jedi is the part shared by all, even those who just wants a crafting bonus or a upped ranged defense, while the part that is for those who are after jedi (padawan trials) is the short and easy part. Becoming jedi is more or less a two-part quest atm. Realising your potential as a force sensitive (village) and then going from there to becoming a real jedi (padawan).
At the moment the village is 95% of the effort, and I simply think those numbers should be turned around. If this was the movies (I know, it's a cardinal sin to make the comparison, but I'll do it all the same for sh*t and giggles. ) Yoda would've been concerned that Luke was much too YOUNG to start his training. The jedi temple would've been full of self learned 45 year old force sensitives that wandered in and had a quick chat with a master as their only training before getting their silly padawan hair due...
