From what I have read in the guides and forums, the lightsaber crafting is part of the 16th trial. For this trial you craft a lightsaber and tune a crystal. It also sounds as if you become initiate and then padawan during this trial. Other messages on the forum indicate that you can grind your lightsaber as an initiate so you have xp saved up for LS1 when you become padawan and this what what I am aiming to do. Can someone fill me in on what I am missing?
Thanks

They list the lightsaber trial as the last on the guides, but the trials are in no particular order, with the exception of the lightsaber trial coming mid-way through the trials. So thats how they would get a lightsaber before padawan....Initiate when you craft it. But I dunno about saving jedi xp after crafting it until becoming a paddywhack, someone a little further down the line will have to confirm that.

you can grind with the training lightsaber before padie.
in fact - it's suggested. Save 20k so when you become a padie - you can get novice lightsaber right then, makes grinding padie much easier.
it just takes a while to kill critters at 120-230 a wack every 4.7 seconds.
I was given the task to make the lightsaber at trial 8. after the tune of the color crystal, I was a init.

Most gas stations carry Lightsavers, no wait, those are Lifesavers.

The problem some are running into is that no one (not even the Jedi Corespondent) is quit sure about visibility and initiate level. There is a thread on the Jedi Forum about a BH killing an initiate who was grinding before Padawan thinking he was safe. The FAQs state using a sabre or force powers creates visibility. Guess what everyone tuning a crystal takes force power, so do not tune in front of others and becareful when using that sabre even before Padawan you may get visibility. I hear that grinding the first 20k xp to novice sabre is hard enough you do not want to grind 75k because of BH death. 50 for the death and 5 for cloning as initiate.

yep. to grind the 20k of novice LS you really need to have master brawler (for the long duration berserk and intimidation) and the accuracy buffing food as well as doc buffs and composite armor.
after you get the novice ls box... the real pain begins.

there's no reason to grind out the xp *before* padawan. and trying to grind enough xp to any of the saber1 boxes before padawan is insanity.
