Thread: A FS Fencer???

1. Does a FS Master Fencer have to wear armor if he chooses the right FS defensive skills?
--You don't have to wear armor, but in some situations, it's ideal. I generally fight in PvE and quests without armor. Keep in mind though, that armor and enhancements from Doctor buffs are so commonplace that the develpers made the high-level, high-end content very difficult. This kind of content, like the Death Watch Bunker and the Corellian Corvette, all require buffs and armor. This includes some of the Force-Sensitive quests.
--More on that point, the high-end content, such as the Death Watch mercenaries, rarely miss no matter how high your defenses, and when they hit, they do more than enough damage to incapacitate you in one hit.
--Keep in mind that no one combat profession is enough to give your template invulnerable defenses. Most Fencerstrain in another elite profession like Teras Kasi, Pistoleer, Pikeman, or even Rifleman to improve their defenses. This is known as "stacking"
--The Force Sensitive skills that enhance your Ranged Defense and Melee Defense will help quite a bit, but they will not give you the maximum defenses, not unless you combine with another Elite Combat Profession, or the Force Defender tree under Jedi.

2. Would I be able to wear armor at all if I chose other FS skills besides defensive?
--The Force-Sensitive skills do not prevent you from wearing armor. They are passive skills that just adjust your stats. I believe you can wear armor after you have become a Padawan, but if you do you cannot use any Force skills like healing skills, or offensive skills, and probably lightsaber specials

3. If I choose to train 1 hand lightsaber, will my fencer moves & skills still apply when I weild it?
--The fencer special attacks and skill mods do not apply to one-handed lightsaber use. As far as this system is concerned, they're two different weapons.

What you are describing is basically what I am playing. I have a Master Fencer/Master Rifleman with Force Sensitive skills. Because I have the skill points to spare, I may decide to get Novice Force Defender from the Jedi skills.

i was master fencer before dropping the skills for padawan things. First off, if the post is in the fencer forum, then they are talking about the master fencer template accompanied with the force trees, nothing with lightsaber i'm sure.

So if you are master fencer, one thing is for sure, at x/4/x/x you are speed capped, so the melee speed bonus tree in the force is useless. This helps much more with novice lightsaber when you are slow as brawler 0/2/0/0 swinging a gaffi.

The melee and ranged defence also come in handly, this will bump you up very high, +20 on each and I think i hit 169 melee defence at master fencer, regardless,i was not getting hit much, if at all.

on your second question, you can wear all the armor you want as long as you dont have a lightsaber in hand.

On your third question, none of your fencer moves, abilities or mods, except melee defence, will work with your saber.

good luck, fencer is a great profession

i am not a fencer so i really can't answer, whether you will need armor or not, but i imagine for some tougher opponents you WILL; however there is a phenomenon known:

*defense stacking.* What that is: learning specific columns of skills, fromdifferent professions, based on what defensive modifiers you gain for training them.

an example would be master TK, master Brawler, master swordsman.

now then, i don't know if you have enough skill points for that combination in particular, but the point is, look at what skills you will gain for training certain lines.

now to tie this into your question. alot of people i know that are defense stackers, do not NEED to wear armor because their

melee defense/range defense/ mitigation mods are so high that anything that attacks them, rarely hits.

i hope that makes sense.

2nd question: force sensitive skills do not preclude you from wearing armor.

3rd question: No, your fencer ABILITIES will not transfer to your lightsaber abilities (even tho they logically should) ; however any defense mods that you have WILL still transfer to help you as a jedi, as long as you don't untrain them.

hope i answered everything

you can wear armor with a lightsaber in your hand, you won't be able to perform any specials or use any force powers though

so picking up 3 master skills is the same defense stacking as picking up 'specific columns of skills, from different professions, based on what defensive modifiers you gain up' ?

Hi, all
I'm new to SWG. After reading about the different classes, I chose to try to be a fencer. I'm only up to Novice Brawler 3, as of now. I went to the fencer boards first to learn more about the profession that I chose. There, I saw a thread about being a FS Master Fencer. Although, it seemed doable, no one there really seemed to know as much about actually trying it.
I have no intention of becoming a Jedi or a Jedi-hunter, or anything like that. I'm interested in doing it more as a roleplaying sort of thing. i.e...a fencer that didn't have to wear armor(I think). So, he could dress as outlandishly as I want him to be. I do sort of have a FS path picked out for him if I do choose to go that way. But, I have some questions...

1. Does a FS Master Fencer have to wear armor if he chooses the right FS defensive skills?
2. Would I be able to wear armor at all if I chose other FS skills besides defensive?
2. If I choose to train 1 hand lightsaber, will my fencer moves & skills still apply when I weild it?

I'm a casual gamer, so I wouldn't mind if it took about 1yr, or so, to finish such a template. But, if it would take significantly longer, I'd probably go ahead with my Master Fencer/Master Pistoleer with some Smuggler templete. Or, the master fencer/some medic/some pistoleer template.

Thx in advance for any answers and help given.

While messing around yesterday a friend and I were hunting and dueling, unbuffed, wearing only armor that we bought of the bazaar. In a sense it was like going back to early september 03 when the best armor we could affordwas 25% kinetic ubese, we didn't know what buffs were and the only thing we could eat that was worth anything was smuggler spice.

But keeping up the retro theme, I dropped master fencer due to holocron chasing last winter. It was my favorite profession and when I look back on some of the things I was able to do in the early days (when the profession statistic friday feature from mid october 2003 showed only 3% of the population were fencers and it was the 4'th least popular profession) I look at myself now and thing how much if a wimp i've turned into.

vintage Blademaster pic
This is an image of me fighting with a friend on Dathomir. My point here is that my friend, novice TKA at the time ran away after I healed him up and tanked the 2 gnarled rancors. I did have a pet out, I was ch 3/3/3/3 but was dropping it because pets were very bugged at the time and usually auto stored when i needed them so I began to fight on my own without them and used them to get better missions. I did survive this battle, I had only novice medic and my stim B's were decent. My "trademark" armor setup is shown here, Comp Chest Plate, Boots and Left bracer. Keep in mind I did not use buffs so I could not wear full comp. I was also pretty poor so I doubt my comp was 80%, probably more like 50% kinetic.

Another battle on Dathomir

This was a losing battle, a group member totally aggroed the lair, but once again, the fencer outlasted everyone. Skipio's stats were migrated for mastering musician at the time, it's not a case where a buff was wearing off. Again, none of us were buffed and this was a guild hunt and badge collection party, we were at the tarpits a day or two after location badges went live.

My last kill as Blademaster

This was the last thing I killed before i started to drop fencing for smuggler skills. Smuggler was my second holocron and it was very hard to drop my title.

So why did i post all this replying to your armor question? Simple, in all 3 shots, I was going against some decent mobs with only 3 pieces of armor. Chestplate, boots and a left arm bracer. I had, what I considered, the best stat migration, tweaked over the course of 6 months of being a fencer and I knew the ins and outs of all my moves, what worked on what and what to hunt solo or grouped. I don't think I can say that about any other profession in this game. And I know that if you do it just right, armor will not be an issue to a fencer. I think you need more armor than a TKM, but the way I see it is that the order of armor from none to most is TKM, Fencer, 2Hand and Pike, right across the brawler tree in their order.

So if you are aiming to be the best fencer possible and combine some force skills with it, I think you will be much better than I ever was and because I've gotten lazy with buffs and other "crutches", you will be better than I probably could be if I started it all over again.
