I have read the faqs posted in the sticky section, but am not sure about one thing. Can you unlock one FS combat tier(Melee def)and fill it half way(2 boxes), then unlock a second FS combat tier(Melee accuracy) and fill them up as you like? Or do you have to fill an entire FS tier before starting another? A guide at http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Forcesensitive&message.id=18 says

Remember: Unlock ONE free branch at a time, train it, then return for another free branch.

Once you have attained your free unlocks, it's time to do the quests relevant to the other branches you want to do as part of the six required to move on to Jedi Initiate. Personally, I would do all of the quests, as there are some cool rewards.

The redtext you have quoted there is referring to the free tree unlocks that players got for hologrinding before the new system me thinks.

But otherwise, if you are just going about it normally and doing the quests to unlock the trees, then no, you don't have to fill it up before you can unlock another.

you can only unlock one tree per phase, but i think you know that.

you can train the boxes in any order and in any length of time you like.

you do not need to train the boxes you unlocked during the phase you unlocked it

Case in point: I unlocked Survival on the last day of Phase 1, and have yet to fill a box in it. Plan to fill it when Phase 1 comes around again.
