1. kill mellichae and then padawan trials and then start working on actual jedi skills
2. see answer to #1 #3
3. go over to the jedi boards and read ALL the stickied posts at the top
5. you dont choose light or dark until you complete the jedi knight trials also see #3 you get the bonus of not being turned overt or other penalties that rebels have to be wary of.
6. you DO NOT want to leave imperial status. stormtroopers will overlook you for scans as an imperial with a few ranks. just refrain from going overt and watch out who you heal or help so you dont go overt. you can retain your imperialness for as long as you want. in fact as a rebel or lightside jedi it would actually be wise to go imperial until your done with the grind to avoid being constantly turned overt by random scans. why anyone would WANT to be rebel is beyound me though...
