Force Sensitive Archive

I just found the WP to the village, nad my template is pretty tight. Not sure I have 24 skill points to put towards FS skills. My question is: May I complete a branch and drop it, before moving on towards another branch? Or must I have six branches trained before I can finish the prelims and open my second character slot? Thanks for your time.
