was thinking earlier today, why are jedi the only ones that get to use force powers? jedi certainly arent the only force users in SW, just look at nightsisters, force crystal hunters, etc.
I came up with an idea for how they could let players do this, probably wont ever be implemented but its a though.
Currently, after you get your 6 Force sensitive trees, you can unlock jedi. Now, my idea is that if you get your 6 FS trees, you can choose to _not_ go jedi, but can continue converting normal xp into force xp to get up to a max of 2222 in any of the jedi professions (force powers, force defender, force enhancement, force healing) except lightsabers. Only jedi would be able to use lightsabers, and unless you chose to go jedi, you could never get higher than 2 boxes in any tree of a force profession.
So, for example, you could go force powers 2020 and a normal fighting profession (fencer, TKM, whatever) and be able to use the weaker versions of force lightning and intimidate/weaken. However, unless you went jedi and used a lightsaber, you could never get higher than 2222 in any of the trees.
This would allow the rest of us to use force power without having to truly become jedi, and in terms of power, we would never be as strong as jedi simply because we only get weaker forms of force powers, and we can never get the amount of force power (in your force 'pool') as jedi, so we couldnt use our powers as often or as much. Also, unless you picked jedi and went with a lightsaber, you wouldnt have visiblity to get on BH terminals, so you wouldnt have to worry about being hunted.
The xp conversion rates might change to make it tougher to get force powers (since you're still using normal combat/weapon/healer/entertainer/crafting xp to convert into force xp for your skills).
As it is, most of the benefits from simply becoming force sensitive and getting the FS trees are useless. The 'healer' FS tree gives +12 injury treatment, who needs it? master docs/medics can all heal the same amount of injury damage. The entertainer healing might be worth it, but most master dancers/musicians can heal just fine anyways. The only semi-usefull trees are the combat ones, and +12 to accuracy/speed/defense doesnt make much of a difference to stackers, or people who just use bio clothing.
Some of us would prefer to not become full blown jedi, or be hunted by BH gank squads, but letting us use weaker forms of force powers, IE actually being force sensitive, would be a great benefit. I know plenty of swordsmen, fencers, etc. who would rather stick to their profession's weapons than use lightsabers.
I think being able to go 2222 (limited by skill points, the FS skills take up 24 points and any elite combat profession generally takes up 92 points, not to mention force powers cost more skill points than our standard professions) would allow us to benefit from our supposed 'force-sensitiveness' without having to give up our base professions.

well... there's problems with it
Was thinking about this, and if they let people gain boxes in the force profession trees, some people would build up as many boxes as possible and then switch to jedi, to avoid being hunted early on.
A better way to do this would be to have something completely seperate from the jedi professions. After 6 force sensitive trees have been completed, have an NPC you can go to who will require a certain amount of xp to beconverted, then he will give you a 'list' of force abilities to choose from. Each force ability would basically be a skill box that took up a large number of skill points (25-30 points seems right) to prevent people from having too many force abilities. that would leave room for a person to have a mastered profession and 3-4 or so force abilities. Each box that you invest in could give you a larger force pool and more force power regeneration, just like jedi ones, but these skills would not be transferrable when you become jedi (would be lost when you decided to change to jedi).
That'd prevent exploiting, and still give us the force abilities
just have to watch out with what abilities would be given, we dont want riflemen with force run 3 (they kite bad enough as it is)

i disagree jedi powers are jedi. just imagine the outrage of doctors if you could bypass the medic skills to get cure disease and posions and extinguish fires without investing the skills. or if you could get their buff ability but at only half their power...

you can allready sort of do that. You still have to take the Jedi title and the visibility that goes with it, but you don't ever have to drop your previous professions. Just as you need skill points. You can train 2222 in force powers and keep TKA (for example)

It doesn't fit in with the other professions.
Pick up Jedi or you don't get their skills, end of story.

Those skills require training, to get training you need to be a padawan. The bonuses you get from the FS grind *ARE* your untrained skills. You are untrained but have aptitude in combat or crafting, etc. and as such have additional bonuses beyond a normal person without the FS.
So in effect, you have what you want already.
