i picked it up the first time and all it does in increase ur speed from a standing start. U pull off faster basically, worthless pal.

It does not increase your speed but your acceleration. So if it took about a second to reach top speed now it takes less... YAY!!! Of courseI am being sarcastic here.

it sounds cool but it has no actual use, I picked it up because I thought you would be able to go faster which isnt true

LOL - I was hoping it would help me keep from getting stuck on trees, rocks, building...

Well for one thing it allows you to turn quicker, so if you are interested in racing on the tracks it can be useful. I find that because it accelerates faster, my ability to climb up hills seems to be quicker. Turning to avoid trees is a cinch. But overall, its more of a luxury type of skill tree. So you may think it silly, but then what else are your choices?? do you want ranged speed and accuracy that do absolutely nothing for you as jedi, or would you rather have veh control that you can use everytime you break out your bike? Pick your poison LOL.

Is there any indication that this would also translate to those of us with JTL and improve spacecraft acceleration / turning?

Nope. Dev's said straight up, it doesn't effect anything involving space.

Actually a nice ability to have....
Increses your time to topspeed. And improves your turn ratio. No it dosen't affect starships.
As for being useless? No not at all. It's no more or less usefull than any of the other FS skills. Out of 12 trees of skills between 2 characters it's the only one I see having any REALimpact on my gameplay. (And a sidenote.... The New Lok track is very difficult WITHOUT this skill. Making your way thru the Lok Maze without tight turning at top speed = very difficult to beat or meet the track record)
A luxury skill yes, but a good one. If your looking to fill out your 24 required skillpoints it's a good one IMO.
